Posted July 17, 20231 yr With Kylie very focused on American success for this era how do you expect Tension to perform in its debut week on the US chart? Could it be her best performance since the release of Fever?
July 17, 20231 yr I think it’ll easily be Top 20 - ‘Disco’ came close to achieving it, the fact that she has done more promo there than she has for years, the Vegas residency plus US exclusive with Target will help, and sales from Townsend count towards the US charts. She could even challenge for low Top 10 - would expect it very much to be a 9-133-out kind of affair though.
July 17, 20231 yr I can never fully predict their charts as i dont follow them enough but as kylie has promoted there the most she has for years id hope its one of her better charting albums, i was just looking at her albums discography there Kylie 53 Fever 3 Body Language 42 X 139 (very disappointing result for X) Aphrodite 19 Kiss me Once 31 Kylie Christmas 184 Golden 64 Disco 26 With the promo she has done id hope it can follow up Aphrodite and make the top 20 or a 2nd top 10 album there would be very very nice even though it will only be a 1 week wonder, but 1 week is better than none and they seem to going for it with week 1 so hopefully it pays off.
July 17, 20231 yr X 139 (very disappointing result for X) I remember with this, they released it really late and it had sold enough imports beforehand to make the difference between that and #58. So they only have themselves to blame really. Hard to say with this though, I'm hopeful for top 15 maybe?
July 17, 20231 yr The fact ‘Disco’ went to #26 (mainly due to it being the first time Townsend sales were allowed to be included in the Billboard charts), I’d be shocked if this missed the Top 20, although I can see it going higher especially if PP continues to grow over there and there will be a buzz around an official Vegas announcement.
July 17, 20231 yr There will be amazing marketing and promo and all...but being really really honest - I doubt it'll go top 10 if we include streaming, and all that other stuff. Dance-pop is still a very niche area in the US chart and unlike a Gaga or other white women who do pop-dance, Kylie doesn't have a cult following outside of the 30yr+ LGBT. That said, I suspect it'll sell more and sell longer than both Disco and Aphrodite: and most importantly - achieve the all important goal of visibility as she gears up for Vegas.
July 17, 20231 yr Vegas shows should help it sustain a sales she probably woukdnt normally get. Hopefully tension can at least go top 15 but top 10 could be possible.
July 17, 20231 yr Low top 20 is possible. Disco sold 19k units (15k pure sales). Last week it would've been enough for #36.
July 17, 20231 yr Tension should easily have higher sales than Disco and hopefully the chart peak reflects it. X looks worse on paper than it actually did due to a mess up so hopefully there are no errors with Tension.
July 17, 20231 yr On average how many sales are needed to achieve Number 10. Depends on the week of course but I'd say 65K'ish at least to guarantee a top 10.
July 18, 20231 yr No, 40k is enough for sure, but the gaps are very small in streaming era. However, even that means she'd double her sales from Disco which I cannot see happening. Edited July 18, 20231 yr by Sour Candy
July 18, 20231 yr No, 40k is enough for sure, but the gaps are very small in streaming era. However, even that means she'd double her sales from Disco which I cannot see happening. She done next to no US promo for Disco though and didn’t have the buzz of Vegas, a single like PP or any US retail exclusives (she has a Target and Indies one this time) so those could easily give her the increase in sales needed.

We happen to be Kylie fans and are plugged in to everything-Kylie and so assume PP has taken over the USA. But I live here and I haven't heard anywhere. Even shows like "Watch what happens live" is a very niche show w niche audience. I suspect PP will ensure Tension goes top 20 but that's about it. Having said that - I'm happy to stand corrected if indeed, PP takes off on radio starting official radio add date.
July 18, 20231 yr I always have low expectations when it comes to Kylie and US, while she does have success there its just not her market so anything is a bonus there but top 20 would be great.
July 18, 20231 yr Top 20 would be huge, even some country artists with big airplay hits, like Jordan Davis, struggle to go top 20. Kelly Clarkson debuted at #6 with her latest, although that was a competitive week.
July 19, 20231 yr When it comes to the US chart Kylie is very unpredictable but Top 20 looks likely this time.
