Posted August 12, 20231 yr Claire's voice is arguably the most prominent on the average Steps song. Is she the voice of Steps in the same sense that Nadine is the voice of Girls Aloud and Nicole is the voice of Pussycat Dolls?
August 12, 20231 yr She certainly was back in the day. As for now, I mean her voice is the most recognisable for sure (and strongest - soz HRH Lisa) but there is more of a split on vocals so I’d be less inclined to agree.
August 12, 20231 yr I think she is still quite prominent in the chorus of their songs and generally always has a solo moment, however Faye has heavy solo moments now too. I'd say she is a more prominent vocal but it is more shared. The older I get, the more I appreciate Claire. I've never been massively fond of her voice, HOWEVER I can appreciate she has a fantastic voice, and she always always always brings it live (but then so does my favourite Faye). As horrible as it sounds, Lisa needs less solos she always sounds ropey live, and watching the Brighton concert earlier I felt really emphasised it! Does she smoke?
August 12, 20231 yr You can't compare PCD to Girld Aloud!! PCD were just Nicole plus back up dancers. Girls Aloud are an actual band!! But yes - she is the lead single for sure.
August 13, 20231 yr Claire i think for many is seen as the lead or main vocalist in the group but i thiink since they reformed the vocals definitely have been spread out more which i think is a good thing and its also fairer. I think Claire is also the most confident of them all singing live. I agree about Lisa been ropey, she is always ropey/shakey for the beginning when singing live but she does improve slightly as shows move on, Lisa doesnt come accross as someone who is comfortable singing live.
August 13, 20231 yr It’s no surprise, the way she was jeered at the 2012 shows was despicable - especially in Birmingham.
August 13, 20231 yr She was jeered at shows? Why!? I don’t remember hearing anything like that in Sheffield?
August 13, 20231 yr I didn't know she was jeered until I read the posts here today, it's strange considering there were no controversies etc wuth Claire at the time that I can remember.
August 15, 20231 yr Claire has the strongest and most recognizable voice out of the group if you ask me. She definitely ‘carried’ the group in the early days. So I guess you can call her the lead? I’m happy the vocals are more spread among the members nowadays. She is still the one who is a big part of the vocals but not the lead anymore. Really??
August 15, 20231 yr I didn't know she was jeered until I read the posts here today, it's strange considering there were no controversies etc wuth Claire at the time that I can remember. From what I gathered from the post above I think it was Lisa who James is saying was jeered. Saying it's why she is not 100% comfortable performing live. I really don't understand why anyone would go to a concert to jeer the acts, it's utterly bizarre? Especially like a member of Steps who, at that point, were relatively obscure as individuals really and had been for a few years.

August 20, 20231 yr Nobody deserves to be jeered, its unfair to the performer as they have a difficult job as it is. BUT lets be fair, Lisa's live vocals are beyond appalling. She gives Michelle Heaton a run for her money at times. Edited August 20, 20231 yr by LMFan
September 10, 20231 yr I think yes but Faye is second now whereas towards the end of their heyday it was very much H.
