September 17, 20231 yr Show me love is easily one of their best singles. Shame it didn’t get the love it deserves.
September 17, 20231 yr I'm quite fond of I Found You, personally. I suppose the falsetto chorus was out of step with what people expected from them and therefore a bit marmite, but I liked the fact it was different.
September 22, 20231 yr Author 8. We Own The Night - 7.29 8piAL5rD6wI Highest Score: 9.5 (Mango, UltraCruelSummer) Lowest Score: 5 (Monzo) 7. Rule The World - 7.76 iPfwXI7nAnU Highest Score: 11 (UltraCruelSummer), 9 (____/\___) Lowest Score: 4 (RyanFM) Soz for the delay, it's been an insanely busy week x Two of my faves out here and wish both could've made the top 5 here! (RTW is exactly where I expected it, thought WOTN would challenge for a higher place/average than that) Just ahead of Show Me Love, another 2013 single falls out in 8th. It was the 4th single from Word of Mouth and was the follow-up to Walks Like Rihanna. The song only just made the UK top 10 at #10 and was seen as an underperformance. It also charted at #94 in America, becoming their first song to chart since I Found You. The video sees the guys drinking and dancing with friends in a pub. (Hold your jars x) The song received two 9.5s here (one from myself) and mostly had solid songs. Quite honestly, this completely passed me by at the time of release, my Wanted stanning days were over and I was only really hearing their songs on NOW albums or the occasional time I tuned into the chart during that period. However, its certified itself as one of my faves by them over the past couple of months and I think this was a good shift in sound for the band, it gives me the vibes of the boybands that followed them like The Vamps. Also some lyrics in this hit 500x harder because of the past year. And in 7 with a big jump in average was their first original song released as a single since 2014, Rule The World. I instantly fell in love with this and yeah I think at this point, it just about certifies itself as my favourite song by the band (I gave it my 11 here, tho Lightning/All Time Low were so close). There's just something so euphoric about the chorus and production, the lyrics are poignant and touching, and honestly I felt this was as perfect as a comeback that they could've had sound wise, really harkening back to their best sound. I was the only 11, but about 95% of the scores were between 7 and 8.5, showing a pretty solid reaction! The song's co-writers include Max and Lauv, and was the lead single from the Greatest Hits collection. The band performed the song live on Good Morning America and at HITS Live. Unsurprisingly, their single charting days were behind them but the song peaked at #24 on the downloads chat. The acoustic version on the deluxe is also beautiful. This has definitely become one of my fave boyband songs nonstop over the past couple years <3 Another big jump in average for 6 and 5
September 28, 20231 yr 'We Own The Night' is such a banger and EASILY the best of that era. Baffling they decided to try an OA/OS with it and that totally hampered its performance. <_< 'Rule The World' is just fantastic, I'm actually glad they didn't update their sound and gave us a classic Wanted 2011-esque banger with it.
January 7, 20241 yr Author and I oop xxx anyway...! 06. Gold Forever - 8.35 (H: 11 - Roba, 10 - LMFan, Pensmith, Jay, _____/\____, Jason / L: 5 - Neil2407, 3 - Jessie Where) used to hate this but it hit way harder in the past year and is actually quite beautiful x 05. Lightning - 8.47 (H: 10 - LMFan, Me, Cody, ____/\____ / L: 6 - Pensmith - this one had pretty consistent scores!) Their best song, what a perfect pop bop, just pure euphoria and builds so well, insanely catchy well-crafted, a smash x 04. Chasing The Sun - 8.85 (H: 11 - Cody,ElectroBoy, 10 - Nina West, Neill2407, Monzo, Jay / L: 3 - RyanFM) Another bop, this was one of their biggest hits and probs their final huge smash! Ice Age 4 forever x 03. Lose My Mind - 8.97 (H: 11 - Pippa, Jessie Where, 10 - Electro Boy, LMFan, Pensmith, Mango / L: 5 - RyanFM + I was the 2nd lowest scorer oops) Shocked how high up this finished here, thought it'd be like 5th at best! It's good but not an essential for me! And onto the obvs top two... 02. All Time Low - 9.26 (H: 10 - Nina West, Monzo, Me, Jayy, ___'\__, Jason / L: two 8s - no 11s surprisingly but also all scores bar two were 9+!) Robbed of the win x (even tho I love GYC) - again perfect example of a euphoric pop anthem that builds and builds to that final moment *.* So catchy and its easy to see why this was their breakthrough smash <3 01. Glad You Came - 9.53 (H: 11 - Nina West, Pensmith, Jay, Jason, 10 - Jessie Where, Me, ___'\___, Cody / L: 7 - RyanFM) And their biggest smash by miles unsurprisingly also takes the victory! This is a perfect example from the fun early 2010s pop era and is such a great throwback tune, still hasn't got old <3 we're done! and ik u were all waiting patiently for this :kink:
January 8, 20241 yr 'Lose Your Mind' is definitely their best for me, but I can't argue with that top 2!
January 8, 20241 yr The expected top 2 but both are great. Always liked 'Gold Forever'. The lyrics I always had an affection for of sorts. The other three were OK but not essentials particularly for me! Thanks for running this Sam!
