Banger of an album and easily my favourite from Rihanna. It was released the same week as Take That's Progress so that was a very good week of music for me. Both would get to No.1 in the end in the UK, obviously this had to settle for a No.2 debut as they were gigantic at the time with Robbie just back.

It soundtracks a period of my life where I was living in Wrexham for a year, and going out a lot and these songs were EVERYWHERE and every woman it seemed had dyed their hair that specific shade of red. It wasn't just the songs of this era which were impactful but the styling and aesthetic too. Also, although it wasn't part of the album, Who's That Chick very much felt like part of the era - it was everywhere and she had three simultaneous top ten hits at the same time at one point which was highly unusual before the streaming era.

What's My Name is my favourite on the album still - still the best single she ever did for me, but every song is great. Raining Men is the only one I don't still have in rotation myself. I'm glad she got around to releasing California King Bed as a single too as it was so different compared to the rest of the album. It's basically country, especially towards the middle eight and beyond 'maybe I've been California dreamiiiing...' etc then the air guitar solo - so good.

I have some very good memories also associated with Only Girl (In The World) (as generic as it felt to me at the time, it was definitely a wise choice of lead with that club banger sound that was dominating), Cheers (Drink To That) (the Avril sample was inspired), S&M (this very much went OFF on a night out - how stereotypical of me to be frequenting Tha Club when the charts were full of club bangers), and Love The Way You Lie Pt. II (beautiful rendition of the track).

It's the only Rihanna album I have to my collection and I'm happy Loud is that one too as it is a cracking album. Looking forward to checking it out again!
Definitely up there as my second fave Rihanna album (Rated R is #1). So many great singles from this and especially love Man Down and Love The Way You Lie Pt II

Not long now

Also spotted that there's a remix on the Spotify playlist. Not sure it's going to sound much better than the original though :kink:
