for the first time ever one of Tori Amos's best albums, Scarlet's Walk is finally been released on vinyl

by 2002, vinyls were in steep decline so this album was not released on vinyl sadly

but finally things have been corrected for its sorta 20th anniversary (21 but no one counts) :D

easily the best Tori album of this century

at her best especially in terms of story-telling

this is basically Tori/Scarlet travelling thru America

100% inspired by Neil Gaiman-American Gods

Some highlights... the lead single A Sorta Fairytale, bestest of the bestest, peaked at #41 in the UK

but should have charted much higher and should have been a proper hit but Tori had lost relevance in the singles charts by 2002

the video is also fabulous with Adrian Body as co-star

Carbon, includes a line referencing Neil Gaiman

Gold Dust, about her daughter

I haven't really delved into much of Tori's material oops but just gave 'A Sorta Fairytale' a listen and it's nice, unfortunate for it to just miss out at the time really. Very peculiar video I have to say though! :P

The video is a bit bonkers

But its cute and very well done and acted

I love this album so much.'Amber Waves' is a perfect opener, encapsulating the heart of the album in 3 wonderful minutes, 'Carbon' is a very emotive track supposedly about her friend's suicidal thoughts, 'Virginia' is an intriguing song with an amazing coda. 'Gold Dust' is of course one of her epic ballad masterpieces, 'I Can't See New York' relates to 9/11 and reflects the tragedy oh so well. In fact apart from a weak patch at the end of the first half 'Crazy', 'Wampum prayer', 'Don't make me come to Vegas' and 'Sweet Sangria', it's pretty much perfection. The theme of the USA becoming less liberal/welcoming post 911 resonated with me at the time and very prophetic as to the state of the world 20+ years later unfortunately..

Oh wow and 'Scarlet's Hidden Treasures' is finally out on streaming in remastered form and even better includes 'Operation Peter Pan' and this absolute masterpiece 'Mountain' first official release ever (previously only available for a very limited on her website and bootlegs) :w00t:

Easily her best this century but a tad too long.

Her voice really became a lot smoother around this time. The closing part of Virginia is one of the most beautiful things she's ever done.

those Scarlet Hidden Treasures are really treasures

love them all so much, Seaside especially

My copy is on its way… a little bit gutted that early reviews suggest the sound quality isn’t great on it though

The 2nd single from the album. Enjoying this one as well. Reminds me very much of the Sheryl Crow/Michelle Branch/Alanis Morissette tracks around then!
