I don't use the train that much. When we did last they weren't that bad.

I think bus prices are even worse tbh!

well after thatcher privatised the national rail network, the new companies failed to invest in the network, obviously sooner or later something has to give and now we today are picking up the tab for the squandered profits that thatcher allowed.

It's not just the Privatised rail companies though... Public Transport costs in London (Transport For London is NOT a privatised company btw...) for single fares has sky-rocketed... Cash fares on buses and tubes have gone up a whopping great 33%!!!! <_< <_< That is WAY above the rate of inflation, so much for his whole idea of giving people an incentive to use public transport instead of cars.... Disgraceful..... Okay, most Londoners have Oyster Cards, but I dont think it's right to fleece the tourists... Is it just me, or has our 'wonderful' Mayor Ken become a RIGHT W/ANKER ever since he got back in the 'Nu Labour' establishment...?

Bus fares too here in London.A single journey is £2 now, even just one stop.Diabolical.
I use the train a lot so it really irritates me when the prices go up and then just keep on rising. I always buy childs tickets anyway so obviously that's a significantly reduced rate but I won't be able to keep on doing that forever. There will come a time when I look too old!

reminds me of what Ken said on Have I Got News For You a few years ago when he said most of the people who pay the congestion charge don't vote for him

I still get the child one if I think i'll get away with it and i'm 17

I really hate bus drivers, they are so stroppy. My brother started arguing with one lol, it was so embarrassing.

Am I the only one who thinks it is wrong that over age people are defrauding the system by travelling half price ? it may sound trivial but millions of journeys are made each year by adults buying child tickets so that is denying the rail companies a ton of revenue and guess who foots the bill ! the likes of me and other full fare paying users

You lot should pay full price for tickets :)

It's too expensive though. And we don't have a car so we have to use buses.

In a years time or whatever you will probably not get away with it unless you are very young looking and then your adult fares will rocket to recoup the revenue and others have denied the service and then I bet you will be saying the same thing as me ;)

Its not a dig at you btw or Natalie or anyone personally just an observation

one thing that has got my rag even though it hasn't reached these realms yet

is in Newcastle to subsidise for free travel for the over 60's, they have stopped doing half fares or discounted tickets for students at University.

Now the free travel for the over 60's has reached here, but so far 16-19 year olds in full time education can still get half price travel BUT standard fares have kept going up in recent months being blamed on 'fuel and insurance' each time

Over 60's have mobility difficulties in a lot of cases whereas you youngsters are in the prime of your life fitness wise, it is right they should take priority over young and fit people transport wise, buy a bike ;)

I won't be saying that. If you get away with it, do it lol.

Bus drivers really must be blind though.

That is so annoying.

Students have to travel to learn and pay, yet old people are free. Where do old people even need to go? God.

I'm not saying it is wrong for the over 60's to have free travel (except when they charge to the front of the queues with those trolley things and run over your feet  ) but some students have to travel 20 odd miles on a bus, and the fares for that are astronomical

To get food in most cases :P

I know a number of elderly people and none of them have a car and rely entirely on buses to go and get the day's shopping and so on, some are not very mobile and have brittle bones etc if there is any free travel going around it is right that it should go to them and not to a bunch of people who will in many cases be earning £30k a year in 4 or 5 years time and are in good health

Student loans, if you get a good job they are paid back in no time at all if you don't get a job they are paid back at about £1 a week :)

If a student has 20 pints a week instead of 30 he can afford more bus journeys ;)

Can't they get their food delivered to their door then?

I'd rather give it to students who need to learn.
