September 29, 20232 yr I listened to Doja's album today and I'm not sure what to make of 'Agora Hills' honestly - I definitely see why it's the song that's catching on, sounds very pop Nicki, but I don't really love the accent she puts on in the verses and find the song kind of drags on a bit + I was cringing a bit at the spoken parts, the hook is solid though and good production too. Hoping it might be a grower. I liked a lot of other songs on the album more but very few other songs that sound like hits (I could see 'Gun' taking off too maybe). Not heard the blink-182 song yet but impressive that it's actually charted even higher than their last single, the hype around this comeback not dying down yet!

Jersey suburbs, orthodox Muslim household, parents working their way through corporate America, wanted to fit in, couldn’t. She got bullied for wearing a hijab after 9/11 and became the kind of teenager who, on at least one occasion, drew the cops into a chase while joyriding in the family car. “[My parents] were only strict because they were reasonable,” she told Apple Music in 2017. “Like, they’re black, they come from the South and Midwest, they don’t come from anything…they’re not tryna take a gang of risks.” That Rowe had her own ideas about how to live didn’t help. “I rebelled really hard, and I learned everything the hard way,” she said. “I’m very hard-headed, very curious.” It’s a balance—rebellious but insecure, expressive but self-conscious, dreamy but alert—that has made Rowe resonant, but also an anomaly, the kind of artist who doesn’t ignore her quirks or contradictions, but brings them to the table in all their messy human glory. After self-releasing a couple of EPs in her early twenties (she took her name from the Nation of Islam’s Supreme Alphabet—Savior Zig-Zag Allah), she became the first female artist signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, joining future collaborators Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock. Released in 2017, her debut album, Ctrl, put her at the vanguard of contemporary R&B, mixing the expressivity of classic soul with a hazy, synth-heavy atmosphere and a playful sense of lyricism that brought Rowe’s inner monologue out. “Even with the heels and tighter clothes and other things, I’m still just me,” she said. “I still have a lot of anxiety about the world, and my thoughts and what people think about my thoughts.” - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2016 88 Consideration (Rihanna feat. The Australian actor, singer/songwriter and YouTuber, born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1995, already displayed a natural command of the stage at just 11 years old, when he delivered his first of a series of much-lauded performances at the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Channel Seven Perth Telethons. His ability to capture an audience won him views on social media, a platform he used to both propel his singing career and as a confessional; he came out publicly as gay via a YouTube video when he was 18 years old. His 2015 debut LP, Blue Neighbourhood, effortlessly landed him in the spotlight, with songs like “YOUTH” and “WILD” serving as the perfect introduction to his brand of sleek, honey-coated synth-pop. His follow-up, Bloom (2018), proved that he could also play well with others, namely pop titan Ariana Grande for their mesmerising duet, “Dance to This''. This knack for collaboration would have him working with a constellation of the era’s most talented stars like Charli XCX on 2018’s iconic throwback anthem “1999” and Lauv on 2019’s “i’m so tired…”, a groovy and relatable anti-pop song where both artists boldly claim to be “tired of love songs”. An icon of queer representation, Sivan has been open about his sexuality and has graciously used his platform to support other LGBTQ artists and causes. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History 2014 86 Happy Little Pill -1- 2015 62 WILD -1- 2016 96 YOUTH -2- 2017 40 There For You (Martin Garrix & Troye Sivan) 2018 38 My My My! -1- 2018 64 Dance To This (feat. And that we can wear the pants, you know? We need more of that in music.” Forcing the world to get a little more comfortable with female alphas has been a mission statement for Lipa (born in London to Kosovar Albanian parents in 1995) since her 2017 self-titled debut. It housed the triumphant breakup smash “New Rules”, the self-love anthem “IDGAF” and the assured “Hotter Than Hell”songs which made it clear that this was no ingénue, but rather an outspoken, effortlessly cool face of pop’s future. Indeed, that status was cemented a year later when Lipa made history as the first female solo artist to receive five BRIT Award nominations. She won two and, in 2019, added two Grammys to her mantelpiece. Despite the success of her debut, Lipa wasn’t interested in recreating its hits. “People always say, ‘The second album is really scary,’ but for me, it’s more scary to go back into the studio and try to create something like ‘New Rules’ or ‘IDGAF’ over and over again,” she said. “I feel like I’d end up in a vicious cycle of trying to get somewhere but never being able to mature as an artist.” And so, to move forward, she pivoted to the past, drawing on disco and funk—and filtering it through her ahead-of-its-time pop—to arrive at Future Nostalgia. Decadent and every bit as empowering as those early hits, it brought Lipa her first Mercury Prize nod, multiple Grammy nominations and a rightful place in pop’s upper echelons. And with it, too, came Lipa’s new purpose. Released just as the world went into lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis, Future Nostalgia became an urgent tonic for tough times—danced to in living rooms across the world. Yet Lipa wasn’t done there: Five months later, she unveiled Club Future Nostalgia, a thrilling remixed version on which the singer teamed up with club queen The Blessed Madonna, and guests including Madonna, Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani and Mark Ronson, to bring lockdown-fatigued listeners another dose of escapism. “I didn’t think I’d be putting albums out during a global pandemic,” added Lipa. “But it’s just about creating experiences for everyone at home. That’s the most important thing for me now.” All of this, of course, is only just the beginning. “I really feel like I’m finding my feet,” said Lipa. “I feel so proud of Future Nostalgia as a whole and the most confident and the most myself making it. But I’m already planning the next move.” - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Dua Lipa 2016 15 Hotter Than Hell -2- 2016 30 Blow Your Mind (Mwah) -3- 2016 10 No Lie (Sean Paul feat. Born Charlotte Aitchison in 1992 in Cambridge, England, to Scottish and Gujarati Indian parents, Charli took up songwriting at 14, lifting her stage name from her instant messenger handle. On the strength of her MySpace uploads and performances at London raves, she landed a record deal at 18, released the modestly successful darkwave cuts “Stay Away” and “Nuclear Seasons”, then hit the big time with 2012’s kiss-off anthem “I Love It”. Originally scrapped from her own album for being too poppy, the beat-pounding re-recording by Swedish duo Icona Pop quickly became a worldwide dance-floor favourite. Her goth-tinged debut album, 2013’s True Romance, and tracks like the psychedelic, Gold Panda-sampling "You (Ha Ha Ha)” soon positioned Charli as the missing link between Grimes’ freak scene, Lorde’s dark melodies, and Carly Rae Jepsen’s sweetness. Never one to repeat herself, she’s built a track record as a prolific songwriter and collaborator, penning hits for Iggy Azalea (“Fancy”) and Selena Gomez (“Same Old Love”) and working with the likes of Lil Yachty, David Guetta and BTS. She even followed up the 2019 eclectic, star-studded Charli with 2020’s intimate how i'm feeling now, an album written with fan input during her six-week pandemic quarantine. One thing is clear: Charli XCX’s creative drive and willingness to take risks has made her one of the most unique, enthralling artists of her era. - Apple Music Top 100 Chart History Charli XCX 2013 01 I Love It (Icona Pop feat. A classic songwriter - awarded a prestigious Ivor Novello for Songwriter of the Year in 2014 – relied on his passion more than ever when it came to crafting his new pop-leaning, emotionally-healing fourth album. The whirlwind around his debut had kickstarted a work ethic that became an obsession that culminated in crippling anxiety, leading to a dark period of mental health that stalked most of Odell’s 2018 and 19. Odell wrote his way through it, eventually letting down his guard and pouring out his feelings. These broader lyrical horizons needed to be matched by a musical expansion, with a lot of the songs on the new album leaning into a more DIY, electronic, bedroom pop sound. The love of this new direction chimed with the pandemic's arrival and songs were crafted in a more threadbare way around instruments he had at hand, like Moog synths. It was a move underpinned by both necessity and a desire to explore. Four albums into his career and Odell has made a record that feels free of expectation and of other people's perceptions of who he is as an artist. While darkness was the inspiration, this multi-layered, genre-bending pop album is full of light and hope, even in the strangest of times. - Spotify Top 100 Chart History 2012 10 Another Love -3- MILLIONAIRE 2013 67 Can't Pretend -1- 2013 44 Hold Me -2- 2013 46 Grow Old With Ne -4- 2013 92 I Know -5- 2014 07 Real Love -NAS- 2016 40 Magnetised -1- 2023 21 Black Friday -1- 0 x #1 | 0 x Top 5 | 2 x Top 10 | 2 x Top 20 | 4 x Top 40 | 8 x Top 100 Social Media Tom Odell http://i.imgur.com/1SERq1f.png
