November 26, 20231 yr Kind of loling at the implication Cliff Richard is a respectable artist. Not sure what’s meant to not be “respectable” about Cliff. We’ve all acknowledged he’s done quite a bit of rubbish music but do have a lot of people, and he remains one of the most successful British artists ever. Also quite a lot of his fans will have wanted him to do the drippy ballads unfortunately, so I can understand why he did less of the (much better to my ears) rock and roll as his career went on.
November 26, 20231 yr And for that matter I don't really like the implication that Scatman John wasn't a respectable artist, he had a really inspiring life story, and 'Scatman' is a genuine classic even if a little on the novelty side.

November 27, 20231 yr Elvis Costello is another one whose peak era was technically as a group alongside The Attractions, where 'Oliver's Army' and 'Accidents Will Happen' came from, although 'Alison' from his debut album is unambiguously solo and equally classic.

Oh I was being a bit flippant - just thought it was genuinely funny that Sir Cliff with his 60977 hits over 7 decades or whatever was being ranked by a guy with an ahem dubious name whose song does sound very novelty. I don't rank Cliff at all - and huge kudos to Scatman John RIP for what he did!
November 27, 20231 yr I'd not heard 'Scatman' until now! It's something different I suppose. I feel old x (what a thing to experience for the first time tho *.*)
November 28, 20231 yr I'd not heard 'Scatman' until now! It's something different I suppose. I feel like this is essentially what 'Prada' was based on (but nowhere near as good of course)

November 28, 20231 yr Omg 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' :cheeseblock: what a throwback. (wasn't immediately sure I'd heard anything else from him but just looked up his discog and I do remember 'The Beat That My Heart Skipped' as well, that was also pretty good) edit: oh and he was also featured on a song in Club Bizarre ofc, that fell just short of my votes in that contest
November 28, 20231 yr Indeed! Haven't heard that since it was released, listening now and I still quite like it. Can't think of anything else I know from him though
November 28, 20231 yr Aww Johnnie Ray was such an incredible performer - alongside all the 50s crooners he really stands out. He puts a lot of heart into his songs and he had a lot of personal angst, not least about being in the closet. His 3 chart toppers are all strong but I particularly love the breathlessness of Such A Night.

November 29, 20231 yr Kygo having the same points as NR? As it should be. Romero's #1 is indeed a top-tier song. His 2nd top 40? I can't blame people for saying it's also a golden-era quality, but he has a lot of better 2018 tracks afterwards. Also, his Kickstart is a game changer. A lot of dance hits used Kickstart. ;)
November 29, 20231 yr Surprised I'm the only one who voted for Pro Green! I've literally never heard of Scroobius Pip but what an ICONIC name *.* Kygo has made some great tunes over the years and I did briefly consider him but ruled him out of my votes on the grounds that he's a producer rather than singer.
November 29, 20231 yr Thinking back, it feels harsh to give Scroobius Pip 23 and not vote for Dan Le Sac, considering their careers were largely interlinked. They were a great duo, Thou Shalt Always Kill a fully deserved viral hit, and bowed out a decade ago with probably their career best album and song, You Will See Me. ScjqLmAp774
November 29, 20231 yr Also, I had no idea Nicky Romero was such a dish! As it's the only song I'd ever come across the name... I had no idea Nicky Romero wasn't just the vocalist on I Could Be The One :D
