oh my is it really the Wheatus guy singing the girl part!!! always thought it was some random girl

never in my wildest dreams I would have said it was HIM!

Er I always thought it was painfully obvious it was him putting on an obnoxious accent? (and that's a large part of the reason it's so awful lol)

excited for Houdini but really hope it's better than the mediocre Dance the Night, which i like a 5/10 tops

what a poor start this week with Drake-Weatus-that useless dance cover and now meh-Dua

All these useless resets like Wheatus

and poor Lord Huron-The Night we Met or Frank Ocean-Pink & Ivy not being reset

cos they're on new labels now :/

Biography

Nigerian singer Tems crafts weighty songs that manage to float, with velvety vocals that unfurl through lyrics imbued with emotional depth. They have made her a leader in Nigeria’s alté music movement, which blends Afrobeats, alternative R&B, hip-hop, and dancehall. Born Temilade Openiyi in 1995 in Lagos, the former Apple Music Up Next artist knew she was destined to make music. At age 6, Tems was creating original songs; at 13, she began vocal training. “By the time I was 17, I knew that this was the only thing that I could possibly do in life,” she told Apple Music. In 2018, her first single, the revelatory “Mr Rebel,” was an immediate runaway hit. Her appearance on fellow Nigerian Wizkid’s beloved 2020 single “Essence” increased Tems’ visibility and brought more attention to her debut EP, For Broken Ears. Led by the undulating “Free Mind,” the project cemented Tems as a rising star not only throughout Africa but worldwide. In 2021, she released her follow-up, If Orange Was a Place, which was highlighted by the Brent Faiyaz-assisted “Found.” An emotive guest feature on Future’s 2022 single “Wait for You” has kept Tems in the spotlight—but she remains grounded by her experiences. “At every single point in my life, I’ve had to break out,” she said. “I’ve had to break boundaries completely. Being yourself, it takes more courage than people would imagine.” - Apple Music

Biography

Bastille's synth-fuelled pop-rock anthems serve as the heavy, haunting—sometimes hedonistic—soundtrack to a world slipping and sliding into dystopia. Such ambitious sounds are fitting for a band named after the French anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille, a date that also happens to be the founder and frontman Dan Smith's birthday (July 14). Formed in 2010 after the Leeds-born singer/songwriter moved to London and connected with keyboardist Kyle Simmons, guitarist/bassist Will Farquarson and drummer Chris Wood, the quartet quickly rose from indie darlings to one of the biggest bands on the planet. Their takeover began with "Pompeii"—from their 2013 debut album, Bad Blood— a boisterous blend of glossy synth-pop and arena rock where Smith lays out a challenge in the face of societal doom: "How am I gonna be an optimist about this?" he asks. Through gloomy lyrics—especially on 2016's Wild World and 2019's Doom Days, Bastille's "apocalyptic party album", Smith told Apple Music—the answer surfaces in their sound, an ever-expansive mix of moody electro-pop, euphoric house, falsetto-laced R&B and glorious gospel. And their collaborations are just as thrilling and unpredictable: tracks with Marshmello (the slick dance-pop single, "Happier"); HAIM, Craig David and Seeb (from their ongoing Other People's Heartache mixtape series); and Blur guitar hero Graham Coxon (2020's "WHAT YOU GONNA DO???", the band's scrappiest slice of rock yet). As long as it's Bastille, the music will always be "exciting and uplifting," said Smith, "but devastatingly sad at the same time." - Apple Music

I heard 'Me & U' on R1 the other day, sounded ok on first listen but liking it more the second time, happy to see Tems getting a solo hit.

He only overtook in Top 5s earlier this year, currently 27 vs. 24 if I've counted the latter correctly

I think what Dan was referring to was him saying 'I got more slaps than The Beatles' in his feature on Meek Mill's 'Going Bad' which was referencing some US chart record he'd just overtaken The Beatles for (I forget which one specifically).

Biography

Fred again..

Born in 1993, London-based songwriter/producer Fred John Philip Gibson treats his electro and rave-inspired songs as diary entries. But the artist, who performs under the name Fred Again.., doesn’t limit the subject matter to himself. On albums like 2021’s Actual Life (April 14 - December 17 2020) and its sequel, Actual Life 2 (February 2 - October 15 2021), Fred invited his friends into the studio to record their personal stories and then sprinkled them throughout the album. (The obvious exception was an epic Kodak Black sample on “Kahan (Last Year)”.) The songwriter has also worked with stars such as Eminem and Ed Sheeran, but Fred’s longest collaboration is with his brothers, whom he shares his tracks with before they’re released. “It’s such a blessing to work with both of my brothers,” Fred explained in an interview with Apple Music. “I’ll spend hours and hours working on a tune, and they’ll hear it how I will, but without all the baggage. They bring a fresh ear.” - Apple Music

Jozzy

Jozzy is an LA-based Grammy Award winning, multi-platinum songwriter and artist originally from Memphis,TN. Jozzy has been long celebrated for her pen game, and was mentored by Timbaland and Missy Elliott. She’s the woman who wrote Billy Ray Cyrus's verse on Lil Nas X's Old Town Road [Remix], “Lemonade” by Internet Money and “Mr Right Now” by Metro Boomin & 21 Savage feat Drake. Jozzy works across all genres with everyone from Coldplay and Rihanna to Pharrell and The Weeknd. In addition to her songwriting, Jozzy has embraced her own artistry most recently signing a record deal with Diddy’s Love Records, while being Co-Managed by Roc Nation. Jozzy has also embraced activism; as an LGBTQ+, woman of color in the industry, she’s repeatedly spoken out about the issues she faces and her hope for more diverse voices to be recognized and positioned across leadership roles in all areas of the music industry. - Spotify

All these useless resets like Wheatus

and poor Lord Huron-The Night we Met or Frank Ocean-Pink & Ivy not being reset

cos they're on new labels now :/

Astonishing that Frank Ocean has never had a top 40 as a lead artist considering how well he's done on streaming - just collabs with Jay Z/Kanye and Calvin Harris and loads of others. Def should ask for resets.

Anyone know why Teenage Dirtbag returned to the Top 40 in 2012?

It was 95% just because of it being reduced to 59p on iTunes but they actually did a phone interview with the Wheatus singer on the show when it re-entered and came up with some other convoluted reason to explain it lol (I think they said it had been used in a movie or TV series that had just been re-airing or something).
