I'm disappointed as although I thought Spike Island was mundane, Pulp by numbers and it didn't really grow on me, this I actively dislike.

I wasn't expecting anything like that from them... it sounds quite different at first but then the more it went on, the more I felt it was related to tracks like F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E

This is getting decent reviews so I succumbed and bought it, I ordered the exclusive variant that was solely for stores in Sheffield as I thought that was a pretty cool thing for them to do

I’m a few plays in and I’m really quite enjoying the album. Spike Island was a grower and I like the new single even more within the album.

My other favourites are Tina, Grown Ups, My Sex and Background Noise… but there isn’t anything I don’t like. I agree with most of the reviews, in that it’s still very much Pulp but through an older lens and that’s fair enough.

I pretty much like the ones you do Dandy*, except I’d add Partial Eclipse.

Tina is my fave so far, aside from the already marvellous Spike Island.

I’m really hoping this has sold okay. I’m not sure what to expect, especially as they’d pretty much collapsed in popularity when We Love Life and Hits were released. Is 20-30K too optimistic? I’m hoping the tour and positive press will help them

I think they can do 20K, quite a bunch of vinyl variants and they've done lots of promo even on tv

Also, having listened to this a lot now, here is my ranking of the songs:

01 Background Noise

02 Got To Have Love

03 Grown Ups

04 Spike Island

05 Partial Eclipse

06 My Sex

07 Tina

08 The Hymn of the North

09 Farmers Market

10 A Sunset

11 Slow Jam

My only criticism is I think it could do with another upbeat track, so I've slotted in After You to my playlist between Slow Jam and Farmers Market seeing as that doesn't have an album. Feels weird putting a lovely song like Farmers Market as low as 9th!

I'd go as far as saying this is in my top 3 albums of theirs, ousting This Is Hardcore

Finally had a proper listen to this and it's perfectly all right. Not up there with their best and could do with a bit more energy about it but pleasant enough.

I did find my attention waning about midway through but Background Noise saved the day. Agree with dandy* that it's the best track on the album. Feels like it would fit on This is Hardcore in particular.

A solid addition to their catalogue
