Biography

Ye (/jeɪ/ YAY; born Kanye Omari West /ˈkɑːnjeɪ/ KAHN-yay; June 8, 1977) is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and fashion designer. One of the world's best-selling music artists with 160 million records sold, West has won 24 Grammy Awards, the joint tenth-most of all time and most awarded for any hip hop artist jointly with Jay-Z. His other accolades include a Billboard Artist Achievement Award, a joint-record three Brit Awards for Best International Male Solo Artist and the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

West's first six solo albums—The College Dropout (2004), Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007), 808s & Heartbreak (2008), My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010), and Yeezus (2013)—were included on Rolling Stone's 2020 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list with the same publication naming him one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.[3] He also released the collaborative albums Watch the Throne (2011) with Jay-Z and Kids See Ghosts (2018) with Kid Cudi. West holds the joint record (with Bob Dylan) for most albums (4) topping the annual Pazz & Jop critic poll. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2005 and 2015. As a fashion designer, he has collaborated with Nike, Inc., Louis Vuitton, Gap Inc., and A.P.C. on clothing and footwear and led the Yeezy collaboration with Adidas.

West's outspoken views have received significant media coverage. He has been a frequent source of controversy due to his conduct on social media and at awards shows and public settings, as well as his comments on the music and fashion industries, U.S. politics, race, and slavery. His Christian faith, high-profile marriage to Kim Kardashian, and mental health have also been topics of media attention. In 2020, West launched an unsuccessful independent presidential campaign which advocated for a consistent life ethic. In October 2022, he was widely condemned and lost many sponsors and partnerships—including his collaborations with Adidas, Gap, and Balenciaga—after making a series of antisemitic statements, including denying the Holocaust. - Apple Music

Biography

Dean Martin (born Dino Paul Crocetti; June 7, 1917 – December 25, 1995) was an American singer, actor, and comedian. One of the most popular and enduring American entertainers of the mid-20th century, Martin was nicknamed "The King of Cool". Martin gained his career breakthrough together with comedian Jerry Lewis, billed as Martin & Lewis, in 1946. They performed in nightclubs and later had numerous appearances on radio, television and in films. Following an acrimonious ending of the partnership in 1956, Martin pursued a solo career as a performer and actor. Martin established himself as a singer, recording numerous contemporary songs as well as standards from the Great American Songbook. He became one of the most popular acts in Las Vegas and was known for his friendship with fellow artists Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., who together formed the Rat Pack. Starting in 1965, Martin was the host of the television variety program The Dean Martin Show, which centered on Martin's singing and comedic talents and was characterized by his relaxed, easy-going demeanor. From 1974 to 1984, he was roastmaster on the popular Dean Martin Celebrity Roast, which drew celebrities, comedians and politicians. Throughout his career, Martin performed in concert stages, nightclubs, audio recordings and appeared in 85 film and television productions. His songs "Memories Are Made of This", "That's Amore", "Everybody Loves Somebody", "You're Nobody till Somebody Loves You", "Sway", "Ain't That a Kick in the Head?" and "Volare". - Wikipedia

Biography

Band Aid were a charity supergroup featuring mainly British and Irish musicians and recording artists. It was founded in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise money for anti-famine efforts in Ethiopia by releasing the song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" for the Christmas market that year. On 25 November 1984, the song was recorded at Sarm West Studios in Notting Hill, London, and was released in the UK on Monday 3 December. The single surpassed the hopes of the producers to become the Christmas number one on that release. Three subsequent re-recordings of the song to raise further money for charity also topped the charts, first the Band Aid II version in 1989 and the Band Aid 20 version in 2004 and finally the Band Aid 30 version in 2014. The original was produced by Midge Ure. The 12" version was mixed by Trevor Horn. - Wikipedia

Agreed, 'Santa's Coming For Us' it's quirky and fabulous - 'Snowman' is really nice mind.

good cover from Jorja, she doesn't really follow the original melody that much
Thanks for skipping #36 and #37.

Biography

The country world feigned surprise when, after three albums of Music Row-indebted songcraft, Taylor Swift formally embraced pop on 2012’s Red. But no one should have been shocked: Any 14-year-old capable of persuading her parents to move from suburban Pennsylvania to Nashville for her career clearly has ambition to burn. And the thrill of following Swift’s rise has been watching her execute it flawlessly, largely because her melodic intelligence is equal to that ambition. Her early, youthful love songs heralded 2010's newly self-possessed Speak Now—which showed off her scathing wit—and evolved into knowing, ironclad pop fare that held its own against boisterous Max Martin production on 1989, her fifth album, titled after her birth year. Throughout, her songwriting has blurred the lines between the public and private, burying enough real-life clues (about, say, scarves and Starbucks) to make clear that only Swift can own her narrative, thank you very much, while still retaining a lyrical elegance. Though 2017’s reputation might have been perceived as a gorgeously constructed piece of dramatic theater—its attendant heroes and villains all real-life characters from Swift's public feuds—all that spectacle proved an attention-grabbing cover for her most romantic album yet. She turned up the romance even more on 2019’s Lover, but it was 2020’s folklore and its companion, evermore—ruminative, relatively lo-fi albums written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic—that earned her the Apple Music Award for Songwriter of the Year. - Apple Music

Taylor is the perfect antidote for all those boring xmas songs we've heard a million times

Here now but have been listening the whole time!

Snowman is lovely  Sia's xmas album is so underrated, Ho Ho Ho is an essential Xmas bop for me and I adore Santa's Coming For Us/Candy Cane Lane too.

The Chase & Status one is okay, better than Baddadan.

The Jorja cover is nice but probs wouldn't listen to it too much out of choice.

Band Aid still a classic <3

Now That We Don't Talk :cheeseblock: One of the biggest bops of the year, absolutely adore it and still playing it on repeat  I hope You're Losing Me can sneak into the top 40 next week!

Biography

A plaintive, quivering country troubadour indebted to the literary side of Red Dirt country -- he wrote a song saluting Evan Felker of the Turnpike Troubadours, one of the genre's leading lights of the 2010s -- Zach Bryan began carving out a career for himself while he was still enlisted in the Navy. He recorded his 2019 debut DeAnn during a break in his service and it, along with videos he posted online, helped him cultivate an audience that crested with the 2020 release of Elisabeth and its accompanying single "Heading South." Bryan capitalized on this burgeoning popularity with American Heartbreak, a sprawling 2022 triple album that marked his major-label debut and mainstream breakthrough: it debuted at number one on Billboard's Country Albums chart.

A native of Oklahoma, spending time in both Oologah and Tulsa, Zach Bryan received his first guitar at the age of 14. Soon he learned how to play, then started to write songs. When he came of age, Bryan enlisted in the Navy, just like his parents before him and his father's father before that. During his spare time in the service, he wrote songs. While on leave, he spent some time relaxing at an Airbnb in Jacksonville, Florida. He and his friends spontaneously decided to record the songs that became his 2019 debut DeAnn; he named the album after his late mother.

DeAnn earned positive buzz among Red Dirt aficionados, so Bryan decided to record a second album in the same fashion. Featuring the single "Heading South," the resulting Elisabeth appeared in 2020. The following year saw Bryan release live versions of "Hell or Highwater" and "Condemned," and make his debut at the Grand Ole Opry. "From Austin" appeared in early 2022 as the lead single to his third record, American Heartbreak, a triple album issued through Warner Records in May 2022. The release found an audience, debuting at number one on the Billboard Country chart and five on its Top 200. Bryan supported the album with an extensive tour, the final show of which was captured on the LP All My Homies Hate Ticketmaster (Live from Red Rocks). - Spotify

Snowman is lovely  Sia's xmas album is so underrated, Ho Ho Ho is an essential Xmas bop for me and I adore Santa's Coming For Us/Candy Cane Lane too.

Biography

A year or so after Thank Me Later hit, Drake was browsing art in L.A. when a neon sign caught his eye: “LESS DRAKE, MORE TUPAC.” At first he felt like ripping it off the wall. Instead, he bought it. After all, he figured if someone puts your name next to Tupac, you must be doing something right, even if they’re trying to take you down. Born Aubrey Drake Graham in Toronto in 1986, he—like Tupac—became the voice of a generation and prism for his pop-cultural moment. Was he an R&B singer who rapped or a rapper who sang? Was he really that sad, or just exploiting a cultural preference for male vulnerability? From the jump, he let his contradictions define him: Tender, but cruel; sober one minute and drunk-dialing the next; a guy who could convince you he was an underdog from his perch on top of the world. Lurid as his inner world is, the proof lies in his reach outward. A Drake project can incorporate house and club music (2022’s Honestly, Nevermind; 2017’s More Life) and red-eyed trap (2022’s 21 Savage collab Her Loss) with equal conviction and at no loss to the subjectivity at the center. “I obviously spend a lot of time in my own world,” he told Apple Music. “But when I do take a look at the broader scope of things… I've always tried to make music that transcends gender, nationality—to try and unify people. Because that’s really what it’s about.” - Apple Music
