Funny how radio and TV still hammer Slade and Wizzard in the same way they did 25 years ago, when they're so much lower down the pecking order of popularity now.

Not really, popularity is based on forced playlist placements, they are probably still as popular as they ever were

Not that I personally want them to fall out of favour, Wizzard will always be my favourite, but they are only 14th (Wizzard) and 20th (Slade) most popular on sales too:

Although admittedly both are probably more owned by many people than some of the newer songs above them so it's hard to get a completely comprehensive picture of how popular they are now.

Yes. If you look at Apple Music or Amazon which tailor their playlists to country, they're both doing really well:

 

Wizzard is #12 Apple Music & #16 Amazon vs #23 on spotify.

Slade is #15 Apple Music & #5 Amazon vs #29 on spotify.

 

Spotify's main Christmas playlists are very US-influenced, which usually puts UK artists at a disdvantage

 

Leona vs Kelly & Ariana is a good example

 

Leona is #9 on Amazon, #8 on Apple Music but only #32 on spotify

Ariana is #8 on Amazon, #14 on Apple music & #11 on spotify

Kelly is #3 on Amazon, #6 Apple music & #12 on spotify.

 

You would expect Leona to at least be top 20 on spotify if its playlists were adapted to country.

Houdini really is a bit of a flop, only non Christmas song in the top 9 on radio and at number 1 and plenty of songs getting no such support holding up better on streaming.

Meanwhile the other non Christmas song in the top 10 is a streaming titan... :P
