I’ve always wanted a Now! Britpop. Reckon I could make a good playlist.

Why word Britpop don't use for songs and bands from 2000s decade ?

Probably quite an easy country to do.

Dutch girl band Luv' was popular in a continental Europe, also they had many local rock/prog bands in 70s.

In my retrospective chart Netherlands is the one from the most successful countries, but not sure if anybody else here are familiar with those songs.

If there is any interest for compilations with strange/obscure/mostly low-known pop music that I can do it in retro forum. :)

National compilations are a little bit of challenge. Can I compile them for Austria, Switzerland, Latvia, Estonia ?

When I make a compilation of Alt Z stuff :cheeseblock:

Its much more a 90s term.

I am just thinking are Republica Britpop, maybe technically not, but it sounds very Britpop with the strong English accent! I would put in 'Ready To Go' into as Britpop compilation to liven things up!

What about Shampoo ? Is it Britpop ?

Was just thinking about them as their one big hit that I remember 'Trouble' reminds me of Republica, yeah I would add 'Trouble' too, ideally just after Republica.

Lets see what tracklist Jester, Colm, gooddelta and dandwardinary come up with!

Now had a collection with a lot of Britpop a few years ago, called Live Forever:

I also have this CD at home which is full of deeper cuts but is really enjoyable.

I like Britpop a lot but am by no means an expert on it so perhaps one for Colm and Jester to take the lead on.

I don't think Luv' was known here, unless I'm mistaken.

We'll have a think about albums to slot into the planning I think and certainly get back to you.

The national albums are a great idea but I'm not so sure, for example, what the appetite for a national compilation of Latvia/Estonia would be on this forum (also - the songs need to be widely available on streaming platforms so people can save the playlists, otherwise they just become tracklists of music that people can't always easily access).

Have heard of 70s Dutch band Focus as my parents listen to Planet Rock radio. Hocus Pocus by Focus is an interesting listen to say the least! And Sylvia by them is a very nice song.

There are two possible paths to go here.

Firstly, we could just go with the obvious big Britpop stuff and gather the list from the Shine and Best Album in the World Ever compilations

and/or go for the less well known bands and promote them. I think in time, we could do both.

I'm listening to the playlists now, thanks! Didn't think 'Comment te dire adieu' would make it on the playlist, interesting song, I would have put it after Inner City Good Life though as I think its synth riff after the chorus is very similar to 'Good Life'!

I wouldn't put that among the dance tracks but there is a slight similarity.

Have you found anything you like?

On The Inside

I didn't wait to see it in Buzzjack 1989 compilation. My SOTY is Mandy Smith - Don't You Want Me.

I've been listening to disc 2 this morning. On The Inside is beautiful.
nice thread. happy to follow it. i'm a big fan of playlist maker.

No room for Personal Jesus? :o :drama:

I’d also definitely find room for We Didn’t Start The Fire and I’d shoehorn in Janet Jackson even though they weren’t huge hits in the UK for her.

She was on the long list. As was Personal Jesus.

We Didn't Start The Fire is on disc 3.

Thats a pretty representative pick of classics and big hits for 1989! The only one I had to say "eh?" on and rush to google was Lynne Hamilton - fair to say I didnt watch the TV show and it never got radio play except on chart shows, so that'll be why I've forgotten it

Ah yes so it is!

Although I think I preferred the idea that Personal Jesus had been forgotten about rather than considered and cut
