December 9, 2024Dec 9 ~ Kathaldazia top the year-end chart again ~ Jadakissnia win a spinoff (easyyy) ~ East Rukahavian make another drastic switchup in sound ~ Summericia bounce back from losing their Q streak by winning the first contest of the year ~ FSR Rontvia score a win almost exactly ten years after their last ~ one of the recent newcomers scores their first win (I'll take a stab in the dark and say Neliönoir) (bingo!) ~ at least one of D'yermak'er, Kluminican Republic or Ramrynia finish second again (mhmm) ~ Cor Lupus will claim to have had a disaster year despite qualifying every month (does one non-qualifier = a disaster year? can i get the cody verdict on this one-) ~ Republic of Adonia send a BoA track marking her seventh and final entry in the contest (come back pls) ~ Trifoski complete a year-long DNQ streak (uhhhhhh) ~ Scotland 2 will send a fair amount of nutty entries but none will pass the 20 minute mark this time (candy claws wasn't far off but yeah) ~ there'll be a Hendinia-hosted contest with BJSC FM making a return (half right) ~ a third nil pointer happens (some day....) ~ a long-running nation announces their 'retirement' ~ one of the competing artists from 2024's Eurovision contest gets sent here (yep) ~ there'll be at least one ridiculously cheap entry with a famous sample/interpolation (i'm very sure there was one but i couldn't tell you what song it was) ~ at least one song from an animated series or movie appears (my memory kinda sucks but i don't think there were any?) ~ at least one entry goes on to be a viral chart smash later in the year (i don't remember any, maybe that'll happen within the next year or five)
December 10, 2024Dec 10 There was a song from a movie in this contest (Ultraviolenceland's from Smile 2)! (and depending on how liberal your definition of 'long running' and 'retirement' are you could count Rolloland) I don't think any entries from this year have become chart hits but English Teacher did go on to win the Mercury Prize and my Kim Gordon has got a Scammy nomination xo

December 10, 2024Dec 10 I did quite well this year! Two of Neliönoir, Zanmatony, Sovarasma, Jadakissnia and Persephonia will win Yep. Congrats Neliönoir and Sovarasma! One of Kluminican Republic, Quintessa, Botanikka or Cor Lupus will also win. Yep. Congrats Bøtanikkä! Aeroche will return to winning ways with a win early on in the year (and perhaps another), and will also top the end of year chart once more. Well they got a win, and clearly topped the year end chart once more! Aeroche and Kluminican Republic come 1st and 2nd in one contest, with the winner decided by the final vote. Nope, but guess this could have happened this month if Kath wasn't in the mix. Hendinia and Kathaldazia will also retain their top three positions in the end of year chart. Hendinia manages a win and then hosts brilliantly once more, but also more of their songs than usual miss the top 20 in the final. I think this probably was all true for Hendinia. Kath I don't reckon did make the end of year top three again in the end but made a very good effort to do so at the end. Somebody announces themselves as the winner (either a previous winner or an elected host). Step forward Sovarasma! One long Q streak (15+) is broken in the first half of the year. The nation in question blames it on the semi draw for their song. Cor Lupus and Cumulonimbia made two, although not sure either did blame them on the semi draw. Only half of Danæviia's entries are dance, and the nation mulls over a rebrand for the first time in a while. No rebrand, but I feel like we've seen a lot of rock and ballads from Dan, so the first half almost definitely checks out. A song under two minutes long finishes in the top ten, as does a novelty song. Can't recall either happening. A very heavily discussed song among the veto team slips through and wins with a lead of over 60 points, leading to outrage that it was allowed in. I don't think anything other than Fat Dog won with such a lead, and I doubt that would have needed to be up for discussion. I have no idea what was heavily discussed and then went onto win anyway. One winner goes onto be a UK top 75 hit. No, but BET got onto the Radio 1 playlist at least. New Lexico and Ramrynia both send two artists that either appear in Eurovision or a National Final. Not sure this did happen? République d'Áskorza and Greenfroze trade 18s in one contest. Can't remember without looking it up. Time is up for one of the veteran (pre-2012) nations, who call it a day. I think Utopia did (was that this year?) but then have returned sporadically. Another nation who hasn't taken a break for over five years also takes a few months out, but will return... Summericia, or have they taken more breaks than I remember? An unexpected nation (one that almost always qualifies) DNQ's twice in a row. I don't think this did happen. Summericia don't DNQ again for a while, and have a very solid start to the year, with two top fives before the halfway point. They had one top five before the halfway point at least, and did have a fairly solid start before DNQ came. FSR Rontvia have a less emphatic year than the last couple, with many more flops, but come in closer contention to win that at any point in the last decade...will we ever get over that line? Pretty much the opposite - we didn't really have many flops (8/10 entries were top 25 in the final), but didn't come that close to the win, certainly not compared to the last two years anyway with the four silver medals across 2022 and 2023. December 10, 2024Dec 10 (does one non-qualifier = a disaster year? can i get the cody verdict on this one-)it's no 2016 but considering where that placed and the long wait between hits from January-September I'd consider this year to be D+ tier at best and borderline F at worst Cemetery Date being a shock smash redeems it a bit An unexpected nation (one that almost always qualifies) DNQ's twice in a row. I don't think this did happen.does Jadakissnia count?
