I don´t believe this "summers are too hot these days" stuff. I believe the Earth´s average temperature has gone up a bit but not enough to be felt by us. It seems to be psicological effect from all this global warming on TV that makes people feel summers are hotter then in previous years.

I dont see how you can deny the facts when they are presented to you... The facts are the past 14 years have seen the hottest years since records began, and weather conditions are growing ever more extreme... Researchers in the Polar Ice caps have been studying the ice, and they are seeing huge changes, Polar Ice caps that have been around for millions of years are disappearing, dont tell me that's not as a consequence of our actions....

wasn't global warming an issue when the industrial age was in full swing

There were problems during the Industrial Revolution - particularly in relation to health, ever hear of diseases such as "Black Lung"...? Also, the Industrial Revolution was not a global phenomenon, it was confined mainly to Europe, economies such as Russia, India and China were mainly rural/agrarian at this time..

Also during the Industrial Revolution -

There were NO cars or jumbo jets

There were NO huge global polluters such as the US or China pursuing completely unsustainable economic growths

There were NO huge population surges such as we are seeing now. More people = more pollution, simple fact. The planet did not have over 6 billion humans on it in the 18th and 19th Centuries, populations were kept in check far more than they are now.

Nope, I'm sorry, but we are the problem, and our changing lifestyles are totally fukkin' up the planet...

We don't imagine it. It IS hotter. You can barely do anything because of it in summer. It's horrible.

I have to say I've hated the last two summers as it's far too hot. We do have to do something though or the planet will change a hell of a lot for the very worse. If we keep going the way we have been there won't be any ice caps, people are already saying that world maps should be re-drawn as Greenland and the two pole are now a different shape!

I know that it´s warming, but it´s not something sensible for us during a lifetime... I don´t think the weather is hotter now then it was 10 years ago for me. It´s a lot of warming for the nature during a 100 years period, but nothing sensible for us who will live 70 or 80 years and will gradually adapt to the highest temperatures. If people can live in Venezuela or Peru, then why can´t people in Europe or USA live with a temperature 0,1% higher then the previous year? Not that I am sayng nothing should be done... Of course something´s gotta stop it, but for the sake of future generations, not because next year there won´t be snow on Christmas...

People who live in those countries are used to it...

Yeah its definately too late to stop global warming. The poles are already melting and the leader of the biggest nation in the world (Bush) still fails to take the issue seriously.
another thing is people forecasting that it's gonna be warmer this year. How the hell can they forecast that when they struggle to do tomorrow's weather most of the time

I'm not sure whether this is for just the UK or the whole world but of the last 100 years, the hottest 10 have all occured since 1991!

MAybe the fact that people go on holiday more now than ever and global warming is rising, that people don't notice it.

If the news about global warming hadn't been on TV then i do not think someone could genuinly say purely in conversation. 'Don't you think the weather has got hotter over the last 20 years' (would have to be someone in their 35s onwards). thanks to scienetists we now know this and can help :D

its a prediction based on data, its easy to predict warmth but much harder to say where/when/will it be cloudy/rainy/sunny that far ahead.

yeah, but you only live once so why go through life worrying about whats gonna happen in a hundred years???

yer thats how i feel but i will do some stuff to help :)

still not a given though, anomalies do happen

the most accurate is to wait and see I would imagine

Well there are signs that there may FINALLY be snow next week, ill believe it when i see it

Meh, this debate is really going nowhere. It doesn't matter if it felt hotter to you recently or not. And global warming has nothing to do with people being inconvenienced by hot summers or whatever. It's about the rapidly melting polar ice caps, which if melted, would raise the sea level around the world by 15-25 feet. Also don't underestimate the oceans. A great deal of bizarre weather phenomena can be caused by only a slight increase in the temperature of the ocean (wikipedia El Nino for an example). A bunch of cold water from a melting ice cap could threaten the ocean's warm water currents. Shut off the current bringing warm water to the North Atlantic and within just a few years, North America or Europe could be thrust into an ice age. How about a chunk of melting ice falling off Greenland? If big enough, it could send giant tsunamis to Britains shores. The Earth is a fragile environment...

And yes the earth has a natural process of heating and cooling, but humans are definitely causing the most recent and probably most sudden increase. And anyway isn't it in the best interest of humanity to try to stop global warming?

no it wont...

the things is... we really are only guessing at what is really causing gw, and we are only guessing at the eventual outcome, the earths systems are fragile but are also pretty unknown. there have been periods in the past where co2 levels have been high and the earth somehow coped..
