In The Morning is lovely and my only loss from today though I do really like Cardigan. I’m surprised even a Britney fan would consider that one of the greatest ever #6 hits but I guess the beauty of these things is the different perspectives. :D

39. Avicii - The Nights 170pts

Writers - Tim Bergling, Nicholas Furlong, Gabriel Benjamin, Jordan Suecof, John Feldmann

Top points - Cow P 25, danG 24, Jason 21

Avicii had two songs in this semi-final but they have both fallen well short of a qualifying score. The Nights was released five months before Waiting For Love. It features uncredited vocals from the American singer Nicholas Furlong.

"Live a live, you will remember."

Still my fave Avicii song ever. One of the songs that made me become an EDM fan in 2018, even though people were spamming "dead", "golden era", "sucks" that time on the internet.

Didn't know its title when I heard it on a local sports programme. Didn't even know it's also an EDM song at first.

From 1985, this was the only top 10 single for the New York group. Their only other top 40 hits were the follow-up single 'And She Was' (number 17) and the brilliant 'Once In A Lifetime' from 1981 (number 14).

Taken from the Basildon group's third album, 'Construction Time Again', this was their third top 10 hit. A live version would later reach number 22 in 1989. It wins a tie-break over Secret Love Song by 14 votes to 13 which is quite appropriate considering it could have been written about Simon Cowell.

A song that crosses two decades being released as a single in March 1969 and then being included on the best selling 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' album in 1970. The heavily reverberated drum sound was recorded in front of an elevator in the Columbia offices to get the required effect they were after.

34. Journey - Don't Stop Believin' 191pts

Writers - Jonathan Cain, Steve Perry, Neal Schon

Top points - Mack. 21, RabbitFurCoat 21, jimwatts 20, Leonardo 20

Don't Stop Believin' only reached number 62 when it was first released in 1982. It's revival started with its use in the final episode of 'The Sopranos' in 2007 and then performances in 'Glee' and 'The X Factor' in 2009. With 7 million downloads, it's the most downloaded 20th Century song.

Hmm today was not a good day - I voted for everything except Little Mix. Some big 80s classics there, though at least Depeche Mode’s best song will be in the final.

And if it turns out that The Boxer only missed the final because John didn’t vote there’ll be words… :arrr:

Oops I voted for everything today (plus 'The Nights' so 6 in a row), including 3 of my top 7 from this semi with those 80s classics :( Journey's is the only one I might have expected through, but understandably it may have suffered from play of the over variety.
The Boxer feels far too low, a real classic :o Don't Stop Believin' too I guess, though that one has definitely been played enough times to last me a lifetime.
It looks like people voted right in this semi-final round. Almost all boring/non relevant songs already out.

What does “non relevant” mean in this context pray tell?
