I guess you forgot to put an extra 1 after the 1 you gave? That’s the only thing that could possibly make sense. “Really disliking it” just doesn’t compute! :o

Britney was actually rehearsing chair choreo for this song but unfortunately she got hospitalised so the animated video came along.

Spotlight on me and I'm ready to break

14. Circus | 8.458 Highest Scores: 10: (Slayer, Nick F1, TimConArtist, ready for it, Nick Jonas, Eduardo, Roba), Lowest Scores: 6/6.5: (blacksquare, Scene)

At #14 is Circus, released in December 2008 as the 2nd single from Britney's 6th studio album of the same name. Written by Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly and Benny Blanco, and the the song is metaphor for the public's perception of Britney's life. After she listened to the track for the first time, she felt inspired to create an album and a tour with a circus theme. The lyrics talk about being an entertainer and putting on shows. Upon release it was well received by contemporary critics, and became a commercial success by reaching top 10 peaks in several countries such as Australia, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, Sweden, and in the USA, as well as top 20 peaks in Germany, Ireland, UK, Austria & Switzerland. Worldwide the song was one of the top 10 best selling songs of 2009 with 5.5 Million digital copies sold that year.

This is a really strong pop track which blends a few elements of R&B into a stomping electro pop track with harsh synth stabs during the verses before we head into the grinding basslines throughout the addictively catchy chorus. The production is stellar and that dance breakdown with thundering beats is simply fantastic and does a great job of keeping the momentum going throughout. Okay the lyrical theme of fame isn't new by any means, but this was very reflective tone of what the album had to offer and well it's just a killer tune all round and a perfect follow up to the smash hit lead single.

I doubt it. By then she had lost her dancing ability.

What a disgusting comment. Let me go back to ignoring you.

Circus is great but for some reason the last chorus closing out the song, with the additional production, is so grating to me!

Because of fanboys like you, her dad and record company didn't let her even tske a break!! Soo yeah. Keep denying reality!! She'd be back by now, on yours and with big albums, if they'd let her have a break and not forced her to perform

But tell me, what happens when it stops?

13. Lucky | 8.5 Highest Scores: 11: (Eduardo), 10: (Nina West, spiceboy, Anita Hanjaab, Slayer, Nick F1, Herbs), Lowest Scores: 6/6.5: (Jade, ready for it, blacksquare)

At #13 is Lucky, released in July 2000 as the 2nd single from Britney's 2nd studio album Oops I Did It Again. Written by Max Martin & Rami Yacoub with additional ci-writing from Alexander Kronlund, & produced by Max & Rami. After meeting with producers Max Martin and Rami Yacoub in Sweden, the singer recorded numerous songs for the album, including "Lucky". The song's narrative follows the story of the eponymous famous actress, who, despite seemingly having it all – fame, wealth, beauty – is truly lonely and unhappy on the inside. Upon release it received critical acclaim & became a global success by topping the charts in Austria, Germany, Sweden & Switzerland, while reaching top 5 peaks in several other countries such as Canada, Ireland, Australia, Netherlands, New Zealand & in the UK, where it became her 6th top 5 hit in a row, and to date ranks as her 10th best selling single over there.

This was quite a bold single choice at the time - a mid-tempo ballad that explores the dark side of fame that would become more foreboding to Britney later on in her career. Honestly I don't think anyone at the time thought that this tragic tale would become true & was nothing more than the singer telling a story. In hind sight many of us thought that she'd release a uptempo bop for the album's 2nd single such as 'Stronger', but poor "Lucky's" story deserved to be heard & its an epic number that carries just as much meaning as it did back then. Although the uplifting production with its crashing drum sounds, brooding synth beats & light soaring melodies does undermine the sadness of the lyrics somewhat, but the track exudes so much brilliance thanks to its euphoric chorus, brilliant hooks & the excellent key change towards the latter half really elevates it a whole other level. So glad that this has done so well on here with a healthy average of 8.5 as in my opinion its one of Britney's finest recordings of her career.

There will be another entry posted later this evening & it will be a UK top 5 hit

Any guesses?

Absolutely love 'Lucky'! I never realised as a kid just how sinister the lyrics are, and that she'd sadly go on to become the girl she's singing about 7 years later :(
Lucky is such a great song, one of my absolute favourites. I loved the version they used during the POM residency!
Lucky a lot higher than expected but nice to see it there !
Good song, but it shkuld have been Stronger as the secknd single, ans not ina jam packed release schedule!
