Currently rediscovering her and making me nostalgic about 2005. 'They' completely passed me by at the time but I liked 'Just a Ride' and especially 'Wish I' after it was used as the theme tune of that year's Celebrity Love Island.

2005 me would have ranked them Wish I > JAR > They but I'd now say the reverse - 'They' is actually stunning and leagues above a lot of the other chart hits of the time. It

I was obsessed with Jem and even bought the album back in 05

They is a masterpiece <3 but the whole album is great, Flying High was my 2nd fav song

also like Wish I, 24/7, Come on closer and the title track.

think I recall it sold 500K, but not that sure cos it seems like a lot

The only thing I knew from Jem was her non-hit 'It's Amazing', which was used for local TV's commercial song for advertising Hollywood movies. But I start getting to know 'They' too from Buzzjack.

I'll have to check those out. Yeah 500k seems a lot considering it wasn't even in the EOY top 50.

I don’t remember much apart from They which I think was on Now 61. I can’t say I know or remember very much about this artist but I will check out her other songs now that you’ve mentioned them. ^_^
They is a really underrated gem. I really like the cryptic lyrics and the classical sample works really well and gives it an ominous and mysterious edge, really great singer-songwriter stuff. Beyond that, I don't know a lot, Just a Ride I seem to recall hearing a lot in bowling alleys when I was younger, make of that what you will

I bought her first two albums and have the third one on Spotify. She's my favourite female singer to emerge in the 2000s. Her best song is 'You Will Make It' from the second album which I entered to the BJSC a few years ago and it qualified for the final.

If you want to know what happened to her, this is what I posted a couple of weeks ago on the number 6 poll semi-final results after a quick look at her website:

"Jem now lives in America and is a screenwriter, producer, director, children's author and entrepreneur."

I adore this album  Absolutely rinsed it in 2005, I have a connection to pretty much every song.

At the time I really wanted '24' as a single and was disappointed they went with 'Wish I'. It's a shame she took too long to follow this up and essentially disappeared into the ether, but maybe she wasn't comfortable with being a big mainstream artist.

I looked up the sales for the album and got it on 350k, which is great
'24' was actually a single in the US! That was the first song I heard from Jem and I loved it. Later on I would come across 'They', 'Just A Ride' and 'It's Amazing' from hearing them either in a commercial or in a store somewhere. This was all before I followed any charts, I was amazed to eventually find out some of these songs were decent hits!

Loved her. What a shame she never got success with future releases

My fave was Just A Ride and I did buy the album
