I don't even think that's a bad showing for Pharrell & Miley on day one?

 

She's not an artist who's guaranteed a Flowers-style smash every time, 'Used to Be Young' was a brand new single and that didn't exactly set the world on fire.

I’m not convinced she would’ve? Miley can be very hit and miss with chart success, her leads tend to do well but beyond that there’s no guarantee

But Doctor is worst song of the year contender

I adore pop music and it’s always great to see a pop star having success over a few decades but I just cannot fathom how anyone can listen to Charli XCX’s pitched up vocals and bleep bloop production and enjoy her music.
not sure why all the shock for Miley's song... her hardcore fans heard it 10 years ago.. its an old bangerz track from 2013 ... plus she's only listed as a featured artist on it... its only #34 on today's top hits.. was not added to hot hits uk... was not playlisted on radio one or even sent to radio in the states... clearly the label isn't pushing this. the 2 million global debut is decent.

On the topic of Pharrell & Miley, I did think they'd be doing a little better on curiosity if nothing else, although I suppose Pharrell has no real precedent for smashing out the gates these days and he's the primary artist so it balances out I guess.

 

The thing is, released in 2013 it woulda been a smash

 

These days people just listen to Taylor Swift or Stick Season. No room for new hits.

Tickets went on sale for Kings of Leon’s UK tour on Friday, so I presume it’s that.

Very little chance of Olly making any significant impact until May then. I suspect the BBC were hoping his name and the high production values would see the song as a top 75 mainstay until the contest, and going into it as an established pre-contest hit. Which isn't impossible of course, but seems pretty unlikely. Then again, they might have overestimated his 'name power', it's quite a long time since he's had a really big hit.

He’s on ant and dec next week performing it so probably better it picks up over time and peaks nearer the contest but who knows if that will happen
