This is a good one. Sweetness through to Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm is a no skip section of huge tunes for me.

Still lots of reggae around, like in 1993. There are some classics on Disc 2 sequenced a bit weirdly (Kylie and Blur would fit better on Disc 1 I think, with Louis Armstrong and Robert Palmer on Disc 2).

Now 5 is one of the few US Now albums I own, I picked it up mostly for Doesn't Really Matter. I didn't buy that single-disc Xmas album, it's very weak.

Yes! The lineup on Disc 1 is brilliant - that pure pop section up to Crash Test Dummies is brilliant. I think Sophie B. Hawkins takes the win for me in that section. I agree with Kylie as well, deffo deserved Disc 1 status.

Wow! There's a lot of great stuff on NOW 120! Immediate thoughts: Tracks 1-7 being songs by the Pop Girls! Iconic! Brilliant! It's what we deserve! APT. is here! That follows "Gangam Style", "Gentle

Whenever we get a yearbook, we normally get the extra edition 6 weeks after the main edition so why make us wait longer for the extra edition of the November yearbook?

I think they just don't want to release anything in mid-December, hopefully they'll put the tracklist up soon.

My local Asda are being hopeless stocking the new releases as always - they weren't even out this morning - so I ordered Now 119 on Amazon as for once it has Autorip enabled, so at least I can listen to it straight away.

They do tend to release vinyl compilations in December and my local Asda had Now 119 stocked up since Wednesday so I got my copy then

Hopefully the sales don't drop under 10,000, with the early copies Asda are selling.

The last one sold 10,008 exactly in the first week. So even 10 people buying it early could stop it from clearing 10,000 in the opening week.

Now 12" 1983 Part 2 missed #1 by 3 copies and Asda stocked it before its release date. If they didn’t do that, it would’ve topped the compilation chart

That's true, they need to be pulled up on that and stop selling to people early because they are costing themselves No.1s. I'm surprised they don't get in trouble for it.

They did have Charli XCX's Brat out a couple of days early in the summer too which is very dangerous as somebody could have bought and leaked it before official release, and they'd have been in very hot water if Charli's label had looked into the source of the sale.

In other news, Bad Dreams by Teddy Swims becomes an additional top 10 hit for Now 119 today, a week after The Door gave Now 118 another.

I doubt it's NOW's fault though. Asda have to get the CDs in early to stock them and they'll be told of the release date so it's their fault for putting it physically on the shelf and allowing sales earlier than the advertised date. It possibly isn't every store doing it, perhaps those less informed of how the releases work.

Absolutely, it’s 100% only Asda’s fault (just noticed my clunky wording - by ‘they’ I meant I was surprised Asda don’t get in trouble for it). They have the CDs in stores ready for release date but they shouldn’t be out early, and it’s true that it’s only a few stores that do it.

But I know that some artists put a ‘do not sell until X date’ within the barcode, I think this happened with Harry Styles’ album, so you could try to buy it but the till prompt would mean the cashier takes it back off you. I don’t think this is implemented for compilations, only major artist albums where labels care a lot about the leakage.

It’s not a new thing, compilation chart history is littered with Now albums that have climbed from lower top 200 up to No.1 due to early sales. Which of course wasn’t an issue when they sold so high, but is moreso an issue when Now spinoffs are missing No.1 by three sales.

When I went to my local Asda on Wednesday, they also had Linkin Park’s new album stocked up and an 80s budget compilation

I've finished listening through Now 119, and there were nine songs I'd never listened to on it before, mostly at the end of Disc 2, although I realised I've never listened to the Noah Kahan or David Guetta tracks either :o

My favourite discoveries of the Radio 2 padding were the Duran Duran and Manic Street Preachers songs, thought both of those stand up to some of their older stuff. Not overkeen on the Sting song though.

Nearly done with my first listen through-Sting sounds absolutely awful in that song.

Ngl, I buy these now for the Radio 2 padding-usually my favourite parts. I also do it to try and keep up with the new hits and I will admit the quality of the big hitters in 2024 is much better than that of the past few years.

I disagree with them shuffling the release date of the spring Nows all over the place. They don’t shuffle the release dates of the summer and autumn Nows. Those have set release dates. For the spring Nows, they should have set release dates of either last Friday in March or first Friday in April. If they’re gonna release them after Easter, it would mean Now 120 will be released on 25th April which is too late for a spring Now. They should have a set release for a spring Now on first Friday in April unless it’s an Easter weekend which in the case that it is, then release it last Friday in March

I wonder if Girls Aloud will make the next volume with their tribute to Sarah, as Now did something similar a few years back with The Wanted when they released a tribute for their passing member Tom. In that case it was also a previous single that was re-recorded.

I reckon they should include I’ll Stand By You at the end of Now 120 like they included Gold Forever at the end of Now 112

Only thing going against this idea is the timing of the release. By the end of April it will be long forgotten, and people will be gearing up for the Summer. If it was released in a couple of months, like late February, then maybe it would have a case.

They included Fastlove on Now 96 because George Michael died and it didn’t even re-enter the charts due to his death. They should’ve included Careless Whispers as a tribute as it was his signature tune and hadn’t appeared on a numbered Now before whereas Fastlove did. Going back to Sarah, I reckon she’ll get included and I hope the same goes for Liam Payne. He has a recent single out so hopefully they include that if they wanna include him as a tribute

It’s bad that the Now released before Christmas dips below 10k. That’ll teach them for their disastrous tracklist. 117 and 118 may not have had perfect tracklists but at least those weren’t disastrous and it’s also a good job that Now 119 got released a week earlier than usual as I can see Wicked OST selling more than this

Don’t the Winter Nows always struggle now? I can imagine they’re quite hard to tracklist too given the absolute dearth of fresh hits that followed the Summer release.

I’m personally enjoying it. I’ve quite liked all of this year’s Nows tbh.

You’d think the autumn Nows would sell more as it’s closer to Christmas and people buying them as presents for others. Seems unusual for spring and summer Nows selling more than autumn Nows
