I actually discounted my original choices for these as they were grindy mashups of songs I thought far too popular to appear here even in an altered form so I fell back on vocaloid. 'Lost Umbrella' is one of the best original vocaloid songs I know of, and this hard dance remix transforms it quite nicely - though it hasn't done so well I'm good with that.

And thanks very much to Iz giving me one more silver medal and a few more points from Rollo to round out in a comfortable 2nd place, finally finishing in the top 3 for the first time ever on my 27th attempt hooray (and I can't be too salty at it being 'only' 2nd when the winner was so far ahead). Quite a bounce back from my last entry being my lowest scoring to date! Although this one fell just barely short of being my highest score to date (Nils Frahm got 113 points, this is only my 2nd time reaching triple figures though). Cody's entry did a great job of polishing a turd, not a fan of the original 'Asking' at all but I really liked this version, much better production and hiding Clementine's screechiness a bit in the mix :kink: and Rollo's is a real earworm, a shame that one didn't do a bit better. Uncharacteristically short for a Rollo entry but perhaps the OMD sample should have been the giveaway on this occasion! A very good top 5 in the end, myself up there with 3 of my top 4 + another one that I voted for. Love to see Ezra Collective, PLVGUES and Doja Cat (post Snake deduction) all in the top 10 too. Thanks Iz for the hosting, a pretty good edition ^_^ (aside: if anyone cares, I found my song by searching for phonk songs on whosampled.com as I thought that might be a good subgenre to check for samples (I clicked on this for the Missy Elliott sample, not realising it also sampled The Prodigy until listening so that was a happy coincidence) - had to go through quite a few to find one that I felt happy to send but glad I persisted! Not sure I'd actually categorise this song as phonk tbh but I guess it is influenced by it at least)

May 8, 20241 yr I voted for the entire top 3 :cheer: Congrats Nate! ngl I STRUGGLED this round :P I didn't want to go for a remix since I did that in a previous edition and I'm terrible at finding common samples so I went the hardwave/Sibewest route since that usually breeds inspired versions of other songs 🤷♂️ This was the first song that I loved with a sample that I recognized, and I was not sure how this was gonna go, so the fact that it did so well was a miracle in itself :lol: It's not a complete redemption from BJSC but at least it's something.
