My mum had that Bee Gees tribute album too, I recall Dana International being on it (?), and possibly that Adam Garcia cover of Night Fever that was a hit in 1998 too. Throw in Blockster's early 1999 hit You Should Be... along with the aforementioned Take That, 911 and Boyzone and we had multiple Bee Gees covers floating around at the top of the charts over a two-year period, they were very in vogue.

In fact, I've never really considered it before but Tragedy and You Should Be... were even in the top three at the same time in mid-January 1999.

What is odd that this vote has swung heavily towards Pop, the Record of the Decade vote this year seems to be going more the other way towards Indie. But I guess it depends who votes on these things :)

Also, many acts behind some of the biggest/Buzzjack's favourite records of all-time are very well known for one or two extremely famous or popular songs in particular, whereas in this rank I suppose you look across the entire breadth of a group's output.

I don't have a single PSB song in my top 100 songs of all-time, but I ranked them here comfortably in my top 10 favourite groups due to the sheer high consistency of their output. Other groups who have songs I love more lack the same depth.

Yes although i think the version on the tribute album was done by Monaco. Anyway that's what "Tragedy" was originally recorded for.

Heartbeat was already on Step One. Tragedy was on the Bee Gees Tribute Album, though I had forgotten that until you mentioned it - but back then people often bought singles, even if they had been included on albums already. Particularly in this case, as Tragedy hadn’t been on a Steps album, people were keen to buy it instead of spending several times as much buying the tribute album.
Steps were bery clever in releasing singles witj bonus / different versions to what was on the album!

I can see LM receiving fewer points from me as the years go on!

I like a lot of Little Mix songs (and love a few), as seen by me voting for them. I think that's very generous of us to place them in the top five of all-time though and I'm not sure they'll go on to have as big a lasting legacy as the girlbands still to come.

My Little Mix favourites are “Love Me Like You”, “Touch” and “Move”.

Overall they might be my least favourite act in the whole Top 20 though. I don’t mind the girls - Perrie has a very good voice and Jade has surprised me hugely with the excellent “Angel Of My Dreams”.

But in general I feel they offer great branding aimed at a particular market rather than great music. Not that there isn’t a place for that of course; it just isn’t for me.

In their defence (and looking at the top 30) they are the only act to make a substantial showing on this rate who also debuted in the last 15 years

Do love some Little Mix, it too me a while to become a real solid fan of theirs but their last few albums definitely sealed the deal for me. 5th is good though, I prefer the other 4 to come !

Also see that the got the same points as Steps so it was very close !

Each to their own and all, but those last two were by far the most questionable inclusions in the top 10, there is at least more than a handful of classics from the acts left.

The last 8 sets of votes were interesting as there was a real drive towards acts which were not already in the top 10. I'll go into more detail once we're done but with 8 sets of votes left to add in you can see that some acts made some real big jumps

Queen were 11th

Pet Shop Boys were 12th

The Beatles were 14th

They all collected over 100 points from the last 8 voters. By contrast some collected barely anything- The Killers for example got a poor 29 points and Steps (who were in 4th) got just 6 points allowing LM to catch them at the last minute and push them out of the top 5.

Little Mix are a great band with some very good songs (the gloriously 60s-sounding 'Love Me Like You' is probably my fave) but I agree #5 does feel a little high for them considering the quality of some of the acts that they've beaten.

Yes! Love Me Like You is that bop.

Little Mix and Steps on the same number of points! I imagine the rest might be close too.

Edit: oops, I see someone else said this.

For me Little Mix are a slightly above average, yet very well marketed Pop group but the have two absolute belters in their canon. I'm also reliably informed they are (or at least were a few years ago) all very down to Earth and lovely individuals.
I was a fairly big Little Mix fan but I've found myself becoming less of a fan since they went on a hiatus. Unlike other groups on a break or having split I don't find myself going back to their music while I used to listen to songs across their albums each time a new song was released. I think they are incredible talented though all four of them, I saw them in concert during their Glory Days tour and also the summer dates afterwards and thought they were excellent.
