May 20, 20241 yr 2006 was such an amazing year music-wise! And also a pivotal year for the charts with downloads counting. No other year was it so common to climb something like 23-1 on second chart week. :lol:

May 20, 20241 yr God that "downloads can count but only a week before the physical release" rule was so dumb in retrospect. Anyway looking forward to seeing what is compiled for 2006. A very strong year for indie/alternative music but also lots of big pop, dance and R&B records too so a great mix of stuff really. Also prime nostalgia time for me. My bible for the year at the time was Now 64 which I played to death on CD. :lol:
May 21, 20241 yr Indie/rock was particularly strong. We had a shortlist of about 35 indie songs to include, but in the end used around 20 or so due to the strength of the other genres too like you say. And yeah, some really odd chart runs that year. Shows how impressive it was that Crazy debuted at No.1, when so many songs would be like 21-1, 64-5 etc.

My bible for the year at the time was Now 64 which I played to death on CD. :lol: Probably why they only kept the rule for 8 months :lol: I quite liked the novelty of being able to predict a song’s peak based on its download week chart position. :P
