American numbers gone up huge too. 4 mill a day was huge when ‘like that” was doing well but since then some songs have got 5 and 6 mill

Sabrina with over a 1m today :o

Also "because I liked a boy" enters the top 200 for the first time

Why is Charli's 'Talk Talk' up 52 places to #69? Does it have playlisting somewhere?

It's something I've been trying to pin down all year. Spotify's numbers are always growing but it usually manifests itself in the lower end of the chart, and more often in catalogue streams. Specifically I've been following the Australian stats closely and the number of catalogue songs in the top 200 has been steadily increasing since around 2018...except now in 2024 it's sharply shifted in the other direction. There's something I think to be said about a general influx of new and noteworthy releases which splashes over in general (for instance, I find the charts are at their most stagnant when there aren't big releases, but those catalogue tracks tend to get extra-dislodged when something big comes out). With that in mind, it's hard to say whether or not it's an aberration when you get a big new release if you just keep getting them. Maybe big new releases should be considered the norm now?

I do think the auto-play stuff warrants study and analysis too. All things considered, the cycle rate at the top of the chart just doesn't quite feel natural in all my years of watching it, but I need to keep watching it to be sure. Christmas for sure will be an interesting one to document.

Yep, and if the Christmas streams don't skyrocket to outer space (which they should considering the bigger number of people allegedly streaming right now) it's very interesting. The daily streams at the top of the charts have almost doubled in a year.

From my own personal point of view and I can't even think why it was but from 2020 to late 2023 I barely used spotify or paid attention to the charts, it was just clogged up by shitty American rap and it was uninteresting. Not saying that's the reason but for me personally that's how I felt and only listenened to EDM type stuff. I think everything has fully recovered from the pandemic now. The whole celeb/music scene and peoples finances
With those figures, Please Please Please could go #1 next week and shame Houdini is falling and being overtaken by a Billie album track
hoping to see ‘misses’ become at least a top 40 hit but part of me worries that if it was going to it would have happened by now
Wonder if Please Please will be no1 this week?

I think its too far behind (judging by mondays chart prediction post) - although will be interesting in todays update how close the gap is between Houdini, Espresso and PPP.

It was already number one 18 years ago and McFly have released loads more singles since then ;)

Yay! ‘Nasty’ is nowhere near my favourite Tinashe song, but I am so so pleased to see it taking off for her! She deserves every bit of success she gets
Wonder if Please Please will be no1 this week?

I don’t think so but I do think it could block Birds Of A Feather from the Top 3. :arrr:
