August 2, 2025Aug 2 Author 176NAZARETHLana LubanyI fancied a sonic switch-up this contest and decided to browse some Arabic Pop which is where I found the wonderful Lana Lubany, and this track in particular. She's a Palestinian-American alt-pop newcomer looking to bring Arabic-infused Pop to the mainstream. She currently has 181k monthly listeners on Spotify, with NAZARETH third most popular on just over 2 million streams. Of the song's meaning, she says:“It explores identity and belonging in an environment where you don’t always feel welcome. I’ve always felt like I was in between worlds - an outsider. After having finally accepted my own identity, I was met with yet another struggle to gain acceptance from the world. While navigating these obstacles, music has been my healing point, where I felt like I could fully be myself. ‘YAFA’ the project is a safe space for the in-betweeners and beyond.”

November 30, 2025Nov 30 Author 180TEEN ANGSTINJICheiron is repping the unapologetic bratty dance-pop bloc for BJSC 180, courtesy of returning finalist INJI. I was giving her new album Superlame a listen a couple weeks ago (highly recommend!) and 'TEEN ANGST' was definitely the most instant, poptastic track for me so here we are. Hoping the Buzzverse will stan and give Cheiron our elusive 4th consecutive qualifier.
January 18Jan 18 Author 181OUT OF MY HEADFIRST AID KITFirst Aid Kit have been announced as the first 2026 representatives for Cheiron, making this their first BJSC appearance in 137 contests! The folk duo will be aiming to match or better their fifth-place entry from BJSC 44, Emmylou. I mistakenly thought FAK had won BJSC before so never bothered sending this song until I checked to find they only reached #5! Happy I checked as this is definitely one of my favourite entries to date.
January 25Jan 25 Honestly, if I’d have known First Aid Kit wouldn’t get vetoed, I’d have sent them myself! Hope you do really well with this :)

February 20Feb 20 Author 182REASON TO STAYPIXEL GRIPGlitterstock Gala winners Pixel Grip are returning to the Final Stage of BJSC 14 contests after their first appearance, with the high-tempered Reason To Stay. This song was instant love for me: the moody, restrained verses paired with that booming chorus is so appealing (and a little cathartic).
April 19Apr 19 Author 184ENERGYMIDNIGHT GENERATIONThe Mexicans are back representing Cheiron for BJSC - and this time some papis! I found this song on my Discover Weekly (I think under the indie dance tab) and immediately it hooked me. The futuristic/retro blend is just so appealing to my ears and that last minute or two.... whew! Not really sure how it'll go down in BJSC but would rather lose my Q streak with a song I stan. Please vote!
