NAZARETH

Lana Lubany

I fancied a sonic switch-up this contest and decided to browse some Arabic Pop which is where I found the wonderful Lana Lubany, and this track in particular. She's a Palestinian-American alt-pop newcomer looking to bring Arabic-infused Pop to the mainstream. She currently has 181k monthly listeners on Spotify, with NAZARETH third most popular on just over 2 million streams. Of the song's meaning, she says:

“It explores identity and belonging in an environment where you don’t always feel welcome. I’ve always felt like I was in between worlds - an outsider. After having finally accepted my own identity, I was met with yet another struggle to gain acceptance from the world. While navigating these obstacles, music has been my healing point, where I felt like I could fully be myself. ‘YAFA’ the project is a safe space for the in-betweeners and beyond.”

NO SOUND

Mercy Girl

A sonic shift towards more electronic darkwave territory now, courtesy of a newly formed Scottish band (apparently formed only last year!) A bit of a risk after the relatively safe entry of last month!

lol thought you sent 90s boyband No Mercy there for a second!

Now that would be a sonic shift. 😅

TEEN ANGST

INJI

Cheiron is repping the unapologetic bratty dance-pop bloc for BJSC 180, courtesy of returning finalist INJI. I was giving her new album Superlame a listen a couple weeks ago (highly recommend!) and 'TEEN ANGST' was definitely the most instant, poptastic track for me so here we are. Hoping the Buzzverse will stan and give Cheiron our elusive 4th consecutive qualifier. kink
