July 25, 2024Jul 25 Gutted it's not Zurich :( also getting very concerned about how many/few countries we might have!
August 29, 2024Aug 29 Hostage to fortune prediction for tomorrow's announcement - I predict the EBU won't be able to resist the temptation to host the contest in their backyard and Geneva will get the nod.
August 30, 2024Aug 30 Took a very quick glance at hotels knowing full well I can't afford to stay there, and there was ONE option for £6,000 for four nights. I guess at least it's a border city, with two countries, so you'd think there might be other options further out.
August 30, 2024Aug 30 And it’s Basel! I paid more for accommodation than I normally would, but when everyone’s just grabbing a hotel in every major Swiss city for every Saturday in May 2025 minutes after the end of the contest and then cancelling the cities/dates they don’t need, there’s never going to be much choice even straight after the announcement this morning. £95(!) for a hotel on the Saturday, a bit out of the city centre but even on a normal non-Eurovision weekend there’s a tram and bus going there from the stadium until 3am, so looked like a good choice. Gatwick-Basel flights were £50 when I bought them this morning (I’m just doing the Saturday-Sunday to avoid bankruptcy in a country where the cheapest McDonalds cheeseburger meal is over £10), and just over two hours later they’re over £200. So it’s the Family or Grand Final for me depending on how mad and (un?)affordable the ticket sales will be!
December 10, 2024Dec 10 Distinct lack of two things: 1 - admission and acceptance that one particular delegation had absolutely zero respect for themselves or others in Malmö and are the reason this is required 2 - consequences for the violation of any of the new regulations and requirements.
January 14Jan 14 Ticket sales this year have required a Taylor Swift style 'pre-registration' which closed a few days ago, which even then doesn't guarantee you access to the on-sale but at least gets you closer to the chance of it. I wonder how many fans were aware of this in advance as many may just try logging on the day only to find out they needed to sign up weeks earlier, it's all been done to stop bots/touts/multiple accounts etc and successful customers who pre-registered will find out if they get a ticket link a few days beforehand. I did sign up for Taylor Swift and never even got as far as getting a ticket link, so hopefully I'll be a bit more successful this time! I'm still a bit scarred from all the drama of last year, so I hope things run smoother this time and we can go back to a fun-filled evening again...
January 14Jan 14 I signed up even though I have no real intention of going, due to not having booked anywhere in Basel ahead of time and the prices being a bit ridic x
January 22Jan 22 @1882015349543219206 allegedly because ESC Discord refused to cover I*raeli selection
January 29Jan 29 Well, the upside of the new "code only" onsale is that the online queue sped through in five minutes, probably because everyone who didn't have the code (which did indeed catch some people out it looks like) couldn't access anything, but even then I wasn't lucky today unfortunately! As I'm flying there on Saturday morning I can't do any rehearsals or finals before that, and annoyingly at one point I had two for the Friday jury final in my basket which I normally go for but can't this time, and briefly had one for the Saturday rehearsal but the person I'm going with wouldn't have been too happy had I just got that :P Also a brief panic when the code stopped working for a few minutes but I just had to wait for my basket to expire before it worked again, by which time everything for every show had gone. Also looks like if you refresh the ticket page a few too many times it suddenly locks you out. probably to stop potential bots. Everything does seem fully gone in this wave now but I'll still check during the course of today, a few years ago I logged in at about 1am and grabbed a ticket so maybe the same will happen this time. My original hotel in Basel itself ended up cancelling on me due to a convenient "overbooking" (in other words they realised what was on that night) but Mulhouse in nearby France has tons of cheap options so I booked somewhere there, and there's a £4 Flixbus from Basel to Mulhouse at 1:25am that we might make unless the interval act is a one hour Celine Dion feat. Nemo medley.
January 29Jan 29 Author Yeah it was a lot more speedy than normal! I've ended up with afternoon preview for semi 1, and live show for semi 2 (which if the stars align, could have "Ich Komme" and serving KANT in the same half), flying back on the Friday to avoid what I'm assuming will be the most expensive part of the week for accommodation.
January 30Jan 30 Didn't get any tickets either, will try again in second wave. I don't wanna use my code for a preview or semi final if there's still a chance. Going to try and get tickets for the stadium tomorrow, I think it can be just as fun as the arena. If I get arena tickets later I'll just use their resale site.
