Posted July 22, 2024Jul 22 Hi all! This thread is the thread for covering Water Sports at the Olympics this year. This includes the following sports: Canoe Sprint and Slalom, Rowing, Sailing, Surfing. Feel free to discuss all the ins and outs of the sports, any predictions you may have, support for the athletes and anything else you notice as we kick off on Saturday!
July 28, 2024Jul 28 Brutal end to the kayaking with the German defending champion incurring a 50 second penalty dumping her straight from a likely medal to 2nd from last place. Worked out well for GB though x
July 29, 2024Jul 29 Another GB canoeing medal, silver for Adam Burgess after he very narrowly missed out on a medal in the same event in Tokyo! A comfortable gold for France making it three events today with GB and France as the top 2.
July 29, 2024Jul 29 Brutal end to the kayaking with the German defending champion incurring a 50 second penalty dumping her straight from a likely medal to 2nd from last place. Worked out well for GB though x Absolutely - definitely worked out in our favour but crazy that the favourite can be knocked so far down by just missing one gate!
July 31, 2024Jul 31 A gold medal in the women's quad sculls. That was such a close finish, they were never ahead until the last few inches of the course.
July 31, 2024Jul 31 Author Mallory Franklin crosses the line in 111.62 seconds, which includes a six second penalty for touching three gates. It wasn't perfect from the Tokyo 2020 silver medallist but it should be enough to qualify!
July 31, 2024Jul 31 2 amazing last minute pushes for gold for GB this morning between the men's triathlon and the women's quadruple sculls rowing - I was happy to see us just looking at a secure silver here and couldn't believe it being called for us at the very last second *.* the Dutch very close to going from no medals at all so far to two golds in the span of less than an hour. We had a very underwhelming result in the rowing in Tokyo with just one silver and one bronze so fab to see us already improving on that this time.
August 2, 2024Aug 2 Good to see another gold medal for GB today in the women's lightweight double sculls and also for Ireland in the men's event.
August 3, 2024Aug 3 First Lithuanian medal (Bronze - Rowing, Women's single sculls) Viktorija Senkutė Edited August 3, 2024Aug 3 by Last Dreamer
August 3, 2024Aug 3 Yes, it was very entertaining. I was thinking of It's A Knockout before Hazel mentioned it.
August 7, 2024Aug 7 Deliberately went back to watch all of the kayak cross - so great to watch! And we got medals in both the men's and the women's which was a bonus. A real shame for Michael Beckett in the men's dinghy as well - he'd got himself into a medal position when the race was cancelled and couldn't repeat the feat when they did it again!
August 8, 2024Aug 8 A gold medal in the new event, kiteboarding, for Eleanor Aldridge. Impressive sailing from her to win that.
