We know why it's still being used though. It's never been corrected since Isaac Newton mistakenly thought the word they said was 'mavity' thus it became the word for gravity in-universe.

It's the relatively brief appearance of a major historical figure that seems a bit weird. However, as Joseph suggested, perhaps it is just going to be a running gag.

The silliest thing about the whole mavity joke is that Newton didn't invent the term as such. He used the word gravity because it was based on the latin word gravitas, meaning weight.

 

To switch that around to mavity makes Newton seem like something of an idiot. Albeit a genius as well
