Great to see them together again.

They seem to have really united as genuine friends.

Nadine, Kimberley and Cheryl were in the Christmas Strictly special audience to support Nicola

While it’s obviously not a consolation at all, Sarah’s cancer battle and death clearly made them realise how important each is in their lives and brought they back together. It’s really nice to see as nobody else except those girls can know what it was like to be part of Girls Aloud they share something very rare and unique. I find it heartwarming to see them supporting one another as friends now, personally have no inclination to ever see them perform without Sarah, but I would love to see them continue to hang out with one another.

Sarah's death really did bring them together and probably made them realise how short life is and how fickle it can be. As you said its a very small consolation (not that there really is one) but least something good came from Sarah's passing.

Merry Christmas to all of you who post or read the Girls Aloud forum! :cheer:

When your girls bring you so much Christmas love! So nice to have them in the audience at Strictly to support me ♥️

We’re ending our year with so much gratitude in our hearts as we’ve managed to raise over One Million Pounds for research into breast cancer … as requested of us by our Electric Girl Sarah. We think of you and miss you everyday Sarah 💜

My heart!  It's so lovely but of course heart-breaking to see them together as a 4. Make sure you scroll through all the pictures - the connection they have after 20 years is touching to see. I like to think that Sarah is looking down on them and laughing along with them.

From The Independent:

‘Cheryl’s tenacity has never been in question; she also has form when it comes to proving people wrong, which bodes well for her performance in 2:22 A Ghost Story. Because they were formed on Popstars: The Rivals, Girls Aloud weren’t really expected to last. But they completely obliterated the music industry’s low expectations by racking up 20 consecutive top 10 hits with modern pop classics including “The Promise”, “Biology” and “Sound of the Underground”. The latter, Cheryl notes proudly, “still slaps”. Girls Aloud worked hard and gradually earned the respect of their peers: their hit “Love Machine” was covered by Arctic Monkeys, they supported Coldplay at Wembley Stadium, and finally, in 2009, they won a long overdue Brit Award. “I believe the five of us were meant to be together,” Cheryl says. “When you mixed our personalities, I think we were relatable to a lot of young girls at that time. And the music was fun and kind of timeless because it captured a moment of the Noughties. That’s what I’m most proud of.”

Girls Aloud went their separate ways in 2013 after a farewell arena tour, but Cheryl remains close to her bandmates Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh. When Roberts competed on Strictly Come Dancing on Christmas Day, it was incredibly poignant to see her three bandmates in the audience without the fifth member, Sarah Harding, who died of complications from breast cancer in September 2021. “It’s just not something you ever think will be part of your story,” Cheryl says, welling up. “You look back and you can’t help thinking, God, when she was coming into tour rehearsals kicking her heels that [in] 15-20 years we’d be mourning her loss.” By this point, tears are streaming down Cheryl’s face, but she keeps her composure. “But if anything, it’s brought us all closer together,” she says. “We reconnected a lot over the last few years. Bittersweet, very bittersweet, but it just reminds you how much you love each other.”

In October, Cheryl and her bandmates held a fundraising gala in Harding’s honour, but there are no plans to tour as a four-piece. “I think right now, it still feels pretty s****y,” she says. “It’s not long [since Harding died] and even for Sarah’s mam and brother...” Cheryl lets the thought hang, before confirming that no one feels ready to regroup. “We’re not there. We’re not there yet,” she continues. “I wouldn’t ever say never because I’ve learned in life to not do that. But there isn’t anything on the cards and we haven’t spoken [about anything] outside of friendship in the last few years. We haven’t spoken about Girls Aloud; we’ve only spoken about life.”

 Always makes me sad to read them talking about Sarah. Their feelings towards a reunion are understandable.

Cheryl has revealed that the tragic death of Sarah Harding 'changed her perspective' on life.

The Girls Aloud singer died at the age of 39 in September 2021 after losing her battle with breast cancer, with her bandmates coming together last year to honour her memory at a charity event.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, 39-year-old Cheryl revealed that the loss ensured that she doesn't take any days for granted and that it brought her 'closer' to Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Kimberley Walsh.

She explained: 'A lot of conversations we had before she left really sparked a different perspective for me, and I'll carry that.

'She wasn't ready to leave and I think, "well I'm still here". I've got the gift of life to still live, and I'll do it with her in mind. It does shift a lot of things in your own heart.'

Detailing how Sarah's death brought her closer to her bandmates, she continued: 'With the loss and our age we just appreciate and love each other so much more.

'We always have loved each other, obviously. But it's just a different, there's a different depth to it all now.'

While the bandmates have been spending more time together in the wake of their shared grief, Cheryl revealed that talks of a reunion haven't occurred.

After disclosing her breast cancer diagnosis in August 2020, Sarah remained in contact with her fans on social media, writing a memoir and sharing a 10-year-old unreleased track to raise money for the foundation where she was receiving treatment.

Although some fans had been hoping Girls Aloud would continue their band legacy with a reunion tour, it seems that this won't be taking place any time soon.

Cheryl explained: 'We haven't spoken about Girls Aloud stuff since we learned of Sarah's diagnosis.

'What Sarah's departure did do was bring us all really a lot closer, just as women as mothers as friends. But we haven't spoken about anything work related for many years now.

'It wouldn't feel quite like Girls Aloud without her because she was such a big character and a big part of it.

'I've learned throughout my life you should never say never but we're just closer at the moment as friends and I love how we are right now. Work just hasn't crept in at all. We're not there yet.'

I still don't understand why they didn't keep their old Twitter & Instagram accounts.
Honestly me neither, it's was such a short sighted and unnecessary decision to do that! They could have just left the accounts dormant. I'm fairly sure they had over 100,000 Twitter followers before they deleted it, and it's highly unlikely they'll be able to claw that amount back again. Whereas I'm sure if they'd kept it up they'd have gained a reasonable amount over the past 10 years.

Just a post about some of their singles and the different versions they have:

Life Got Cold

Probably the most complicated of them all! There's 5 versions.

The original album version on Sound of the Underground.

Radio Version on Sound of the Underground re-release, which was tagged as Radio Edit on Life Got Cold singles.

Album Version (Edited) which is 3:32 in length, and weirdly tagged as Album Version on Life Got Cold singles. Just to make things extra confusing, it's not actually an edit of the original album version. There's subtle production changes and Cheryl sings soak instead of smoke.

Promo Version which is 3:47 in length, it was only on the 1-track promo single. It's essentially the Radio Version but without the intro.

Video Version, which is a full length of "Album Version (Edited)". Cheryl sings soak instead of smoke.

Long Hot Summer

CD1 single's version has the tambourine higher in the mix so it's more prominent, compared to the Chemistry album version. Fairly sure it's the Chemistry album version that went on to be used on The Sound of Girls Aloud.

See the Day

The version on the CD2 single has the girls' vocals higher in the mix & the choir is somewhat less prominent, in comparison to the Chemistry version. CD2 version is 3:58, fading out on the lyric "Good love will always come from me". If you turn the sound up very high at the end, you hear that it's about to launch into "Will you ever learn to love" but it literally cuts out a nanosecond into the word "Will". The Chemistry album version is 4:04 and fades out once the "Will you ever learn to love without a little doubt" lyric is completed.

The music video version is 3:33. It cuts out the instrumental breakdown at 2:38, going straight into Nadine's "don't you see that I...". This version fades out after the "Heartache leads astray" lyric is complete.

There's also a TV Edit, 3:11 in length - it has a 3 second piano intro, before the first verse begins. It cuts out Nadine's "don''t you see that I..." part completely. It ends on a cold ending with the instrumental fading out into an a cappella, layered and echoing "Good love will always come from me".

There's a radio rip of a version that is 100% Nadine vocals too!

Whole Lotta History

I think most of us probably recall that the music video has all of the girls singing the chorus, which for some reason was never released separately.

Something Kinda Ooooh

The version on CD1 was described by the Popjustice member as having cleaner production, compared to The Sound of Girls Aloud version. I would never in a million years have noticed this for myself, although when I listened to them with headphones on I felt like I could detect a slight difference in the mastering.

Sexy! No No No...

The version on the CD singles has a different sounding "were you dancing?" to the Tangled Up album version.

Call the Shots

In the music video, it ends on Sarah singing. Whereas in the album version it ends on Cheryl.

:kink: Personally I find that endearing.

I agree, I love the chaotic nature of the video, I think it compliments the song itself given its unconventionality. The camera is always slightly off-center and some of the girls get cut out of shot, plus there's moments where one of the girls think they are out of shot and you can see them laugh or brush their hair out their face.

Did Girls Aloud ever do much outside the UK?

No shade, as I can only recall their debut single marking a dent in the charts in Australia.
