I really think it will be 2026 before we get a new album as I think we will get Claires 3rd solo album first but would love to see steps back in 2025.

That interview made my heart full! So great to hear they have a better work/life balance than before I am thinking I should go and see the show again now!

Claire: https://www.instagram.com/p/DJXSI_cMmfm 28 Years!!! I look at this photo now that was taken on this very day 28 years ago, when we had no idea that would be the day our lives changed forever,

I’ve got gala night tickets but only because I live so close. Had it have been anywhere but Birmingham, I probably wouldn’t have gone.

I’d probably go and make a weekend of it if they had a captioned screening but I’m not travelling all that way for something I won’t be able to follow.

I have an understanding of where you’re coming from Spiceboy, I’m legally blind, so if I go to shows I’ve got to be close to the front, otherwise I can’t see a thing.

I’ve had it in mind that they might not come back as a “releasing music and touring” group until 2027, for a 30th anniversary moment. So I’ve mentally prepared myself for a few more inactive years.

Honestly at the moment I’m not yearning for their return. The 2020-22 run was very full of releases and I still feel quite satiated by that?

It is kind of crazy to me that it’s already been 3 years since their last studio album, and 4 years since What the Future Holds… I feel like that’s really flown by!!

If they come back any earlier than 2027 though, I’ll find it to be a pleasant surprise! I just think they’re going to be very focused on the musical and any plans they have with it in 2025 if the Birmingham run proves to be successful enough.

That makes a heap of sense and I actually think you’re right.

I’d love new music sooner though.

I feel the same as Jay. Though I would love some new music, I’m happy with what we got and didn’t expect anything new until 2027.

The only thing I would love is for them to tour again at one point as I still haven’t seen them live :o

I'd say when they release a new album which will hopefully be sooner than we think that they will tour although I still think Claire will get a 3rd solo album released before that happens.
I do sometimes wonder do any of the other members have any desire to try out something solo even a one off single.
There's no point them trying a one off single as it isn't going to do anything. Their strengths lie in albums both as a group and solo wise, that and tours / pop festival circuits.

Steptacular was released 25 years ago and is their first - and to date, their only - studio album which went to #1 in the UK! How do we feel about that?
Criminal really, they deserve several more #1 studio albums Tears on the dancefloor and Step One in particular. Buzz only managing #4 was quite the blip too it seems.

Huge album artists ahead of Buzz that week - U2, Texas and Blur! Steps sold more to be #4 (77,000) than Spice Girls - Forever sold to be #2 a week later (73,000). So that was fairly unfortunate timing for Steps, and actually quite good timing for Spice Girls (even though they still got so much flack for “only” being #2, a different week would likely have resulted in a much worse outcome :o )

A shame they couldn’t keep a Top 2 streak going (well, Light Up the World completely ruined that at #32 :kink: but at least when it comes to their “proper” studio albums & major Greatest Hits releases)…

2 Step One

1 Steptacular

4 Buzz

1 Gold: Greatest Hits

1 The Ultimate Collection

2 Tears on the Dancefloor

2 What the Future Holds

2 What the Future Holds Pt. 2

1 Platinum Collection

What a run! They don’t get the credit they deserve for this level of consistency. For instance, they were not selected by Radio 2 to appear in the recent British bands poll vote.

Ya Buzz really sticks out like a soar thumb in that context but it was a big release week when Buzz was released,

Such a shame! They got a lot of consistency/milestones that not everyone will acknowledge sadly. Still, I’m very happy that they are still around, have succes and we got a lot of new material

That’s a great run indeed. Not mad at Buzz #4, it’s still a top 5!

I think at times their success is often overlooked as they have done so well over the years, and their later success has been so enjoyable aswell,

Plus The Last Dance at #57! 😂

What if they had released a week earlier how would they have fared with 77k then?

Interestingly that does show that Forever could have had decent sales had they continued to promote and release more singles like Steps did. Spice Girls could easily have had a double platinum album from that era, their own lack of interest killed the album.

100%

Still, as long as we can enjoy and celebrate I’m ok with that :claire:

Forever.. :(
