I’ve just given this another listen and it’s definitely fair to say it’s not my thing, but that’s fine, neither was Million Reasons. This side of Gaga just isn’t for me but it’s not meant to be for an audience like me.

It is, however, a very smart business move for the modern day Gaga and I think it’ll do very well for her. To the gays and the girlies, she’ll always be Ra Ra Bitch but I think to the wider world now, if you asked them to name Gaga’s signature song, it would probably be Shallow. She’s unlocked a new kind of string to her bow where I think the GP fully respect her now instead of thinking she’s something to be mocked. So, working with a fellow Grammy’s darling like Bruno Mars who also has that kind of “middle aged but still cool for the youth to like” vibe is clever. This will win awards, it’ll get played to death on adult contemporary, it’ll do well with critics etc.

There’ll never be a shortage of young pop girls cropping up - Chappell is covering that ground just nicely right now, but the key to longevity is being able to diversify yourself and it’s something Gaga has done so well since A Star Is Born. I’ve always said I’d like Katy Perry to have gone down a Kacey Musgraves type route because pandering to young pop is only going to work for so long when you start getting older and it starts to look “uncool”. This isn’t trying to be cool, unique or anything you’ve never heard before but it plays nicely into the arc of “new age Gaga”.

So good for her, if she never makes another pop banger album again, she never has to because she’ll always have her back catalogue. She can be the classy offspring of her idol Tony Bennett for life if she wants or she can dip back into doing crazy shit when that feels right too because it’ll feel like nostalgia rather than her trying to relive past glory in vain (aka what we’re seeing right now with KP).

Probably an unnecessary TLDR post but I’ve been thinking about her career arc a lot today and how sensibly she’s played it in comparison to my fave, even if the music isn’t to my taste

Speaking of pop, I accidentslly played some Charlie Xcx song feom someone's signature at first, thinking it was the video for rhe sang. I preferred that

Interesting post!

ARTPOPs performance was perhaps the beginning of the Gaga Revamp and the introduction of the more “Lady” side of her persona I’d say. She’s definitely lucky that she’s a vocalist and a musician and versatile enough to go down a new avenue as we’ve seen with other females that once they have that underperformance it can be hard to come back from especially when it’s as ARTPOP was.

But yeah I do think she’s now won a new audience over and gained the general public’s respect as a performer and vocalist. There’s still a lot to come from her still which all will appeal to different audiences with Joker coming and LG7. I can definitely see the general public lapping this up though, it definitely has that kind of sound to it. Intrigued to look at the streaming numbers of this!

It's definitely down to her artistic integrity and vision as an artist. She is so passionate about art, pop culture etc and has been since day 1. Because of this intense studying of music and her natural talents as a musician, she's been able to authentically experiment and evolve with the times.

Her music is always on her terms! There have been so many moments when she has been the project lead in her career: she's created artwork, directed music videos, writes her music, plays instruments etc etc. Versatility is working in her favour but I'd say it's mostly down to her talent in executing this versatility (including as an actress - look at the roles she's played and how different they are!)

Still not sure quite how much of a hit this can be but it's an exciting release however it does!

#37 on UK Apple Music now.

pretty much matching JADE's trajectory with 'Angel of my Dreams' so far - looking poised for at least a top 10 debut, then! (officially)

Matching one of the four Fantastic Flops isn't a good tjing!!

Meh its a bit cheese in it lol I just think with his catalogue of ballads this is extremely weak. Lyrics are a bit naff but they do sounds great, it basically sounds like hold my hand
