January 22Jan 22 Why this millennial gets Gen X's obsession with Robbie Williams' 90s hits Robbie Williams is not just a name; he is a phenomenon. Picture: Robbie Williams Instagram As excitement builds for Robbie Williams’ much-anticipated concert in South Africa, many of us who grew up in the 90s find ourselves immersed in nostalgia. For millennials like me, who were toddlers during his rise to fame, the artist’s music remains a comforting reminder of our childhood, evoking emotions that transcend generations. Williams is not just a name; he is a phenomenon. As one of the most successful recording artists in UK history, his career took off as a member of the iconic boy band Take That, which captured the hearts of millions in the early 90s. Yet, it was his solo career, launched when I was just three years old, that truly defined the decade. With hits like “Angels”, “Let Me Entertain You” and "No Regrets”, he crafted unforgettable anthems that resonate with an older generation while simultaneously sparking curiosity among younger audiences. Robbie Williams is not just a name; he is a phenomenon. Picture: Robbie Williams Instagram These tracks serve as a backdrop to personal moments - parties, breakups, and late-night drives with friends - creating shared experiences that others can also relate to. Each of these songs carries a weight of nostalgia, offering a timeless quality that continues to charm listeners today. “No Regrets” Who would have imagined Williams breaking free from Take That and then releasing the classic “No Regrets”? Often touted as one of his most personal songs, it encapsulates a raw emotion that resonates deeply. The pain and longing in his voice are visible, and it reflects an experience understood only by those who have felt a lack of love. For me, the song is one of his most underrated tracks, yet it stands tall as one of his best. “Angels” No retrospective of Williams’ career would be complete without mentioning “Angels”. This powerful ballad, the lead single from his debut album “Life thru a Lens”, was the launchpad for his solo success. The song paints a lovely picture of solace, suggesting that our loved ones, even after passing, continue to watch over us. As I listened to it this morning, tears streamed down my face, bringing forth memories of my own angels - those who bestowed both protection and affection during my formative years. The poignant lyrics remind us of the beauty of remembrance and the influence of love, making the song truly immortal. “Let Me Entertain You” In strong contrast to his touching ballads, “Let Me Entertain You” captures the rebellious spirit of the 90s. With its thunderous drums and electrifying guitar riffs, the song is an anthem of liberation. Lines like “You’re tired of your teachers and your school’s a drag / You’re not going to end up like your mum and dad” invite listeners to embrace individuality and break free from societal expectations. The boldness of the accompanying music video is a striking reflection of the 90s, and only Williams could have pulled it off with such flair. As anticipation grows for his upcoming performances at the Calabash 2025 and the SunBet Arena, Time Square in Pretoria, on January 25 and 26, I can’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy towards those who will witness his electrifying presence live on stage. https://www.msn.com/en-za/general/general/w...d=BingNewsVerp# Edited January 22Jan 22 by Sydney11

January 23Jan 23 Slash's hilarious reaction as Robbie Williams shouts: 'You’re Slash! From Stoke! I’m from Stoke!' (Image: Mickey Bernal/Getty Images) It's fair to say Rob was just a little bit excited Slash has recalled his hilarious first encounter with Stoke-on-Trent's very own Robbie Williams. The Guns N' Roses guitarist - real name Saul Hudson - was born in London but moved to the Potteries as a baby. He then spent the fist six years of his life in Consett Street, Blurton, before leaving for LA with his family in 1971. But despite his Stokie roots, Slash admits he had no idea who Robbie was when they first met at a hotel thousands of miles away from North Staffordshire. Recalling the moment, Slash told the Sunday Times: "I was in LA at the Sunset Marquis [hotel], which is a favourite haunt of musicians. I was walking by the pool and this guy yelled out, ‘You’re Slash! From Stoke! I’m from Stoke!’ I didn’t know who the f**k he was “But that night I got on stage with this all-star covers band to do Queen songs and somebody started singing the lyrics so well. I turned around and it was that f**king guy. And that’s how Robbie and I got to know each other.” Slash and Robbie - who grew up down the road in Burslem and Tunstall - have since gone on to become great pals, often bonding over their shared heritage. As one of the most recognisable rock stars of all time and a true Potteries hero, Slash has built an iconic look over the years and is rarely seen without his top hat. Back in 2010, the rocker revealed why he has donned his unique headgear for over three decades. When asked about the hat by Associated Press, he replied: "You can pull it down, pull your hair down over your face and just sort of hide behind that. I've always been a little nervous in front of crowds," he added. "And that made it - made me - feel a lot more comfortable." Slash revealed: "I went into this in store on Melrose (Place) in Los Angeles and saw a top hat, and was like, 'Oh that's looks cool.' And we had a show that night. So I was definitely looking for something to wear for the show that evening." The rocker concluded: "I wore it for that show and it just became the hat I felt really cool in." https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/stoke-...illiams-9885156 His trop hat dates back to 1985 and he actually stole one on the day he was set to play a show with Guns N' Roses. He then chose to customise the accessory with a 'conch' belt which also nicked from a shop next door.

January 24Jan 24 Does anyone know if the 2025 tour will be different thematically? The current set list and performances are a mix of XXV tour and the Hyde park performance. His album is out in May . Hs tour starts May 21st in Edinburgh so I am guessing he will include new material , it was mentioned before in their advertising that he would do so. I think fans would be very disappointed if he didn't .
January 25Jan 25 Someone mentioned there is a Robbie Williams song in Emilia Perez movie (13 oscar nominations). Apparently at around 40 minute mark 'Swing Supreme' can be heard in a scene in London.
