Biography

When Austin Post uploaded “White Iverson” to social media in early 2015, he was 19, scrounging for ramen and sleeping in a friend’s closet. Plenty has changed, but Post’s appeal is more or less the same. No matter how Platinum the records go, he still has the air of an ordinary guy, a Crocs-and-Bud Light kid from the suburbs who stumbled backward into fame just by strumming what was in his heart. Post didn’t just look beyond genre, he broke it down, mixing the dark grandeur of trap with the anthemic release of classic rock and country. His signature tracks—“rockstar”, “Sunflower”, “Congratulations”—were both bleak and beautiful, spaced-out and mainstream, hip-hop but not quite. The bass boomed, the melodies soared, and there was Post in the middle, rap-singing his woes like a lonely prince self-exiled in the castle. At live shows, there were no dancers, no pyrotechnics, just Post, in a baggy football jersey with a cigarette in his hand, bringing 60,000 people into his bedroom: The pop star as moody teen. Born in 1995 in Syracuse, New York, and raised in the suburbs of Dallas, Post grew up on a mix of country, classic rock and rap: In one well-circulated anecdote, young Post would get called into the living room to entertain Dad and friends with the dance to Terror Squad’s “Lean Back”. He turned a love for the video game Guitar Hero into a love of actual guitar, playing in a metal band during high school while also starting to explore hip-hop. “White Iverson” led to Post’s 2016 debut, Stoney; beerbongs & bentleys burrowed further into Post’s luxurious, messy melancholy, while 2019’s Hollywood’s Bleeding found him buttoning up and moving closer to the conventions of mainstream pop, all while retaining his peculiar touch. - Apple Music

Biography

When singer-songwriter Billie Eilish feels something new, the first thing she does is take out her phone and write it down. “You can write anything,” she told Apple Music in an interview for the Up Next series. “You can say the truth, and you can not tell anyone that it’s the truth—you can just write it, and it’ll be yours.” Raised and homeschooled in Los Angeles by actor/musician parents, Eilish (born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell in 2001) started writing songs when she was around 11, exploring a strain of melancholy, minimal, and slightly surrealistic pop influenced as much by Lana Del Rey as the radical honesty of rappers like Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt. Writing and recording with her brother—and producer—FINNEAS at their parents’ house, Eilish released dont smile at me in 2017, followed by an ever-evolving series of singles—a prime example of the fact that, in the streaming era, artists are now free to move directly from their bedrooms into the spotlight. Hardly two years later, she’d released the Grammys-slaying WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO?, an experimental-pop opus that explored mental health and all manner of sleep phenomena, totally upending the notions of what constitutes pop music in 2020. (She also won the inaugural Apple Music Award for Global Artist of the Year.) Despite the attention, Eilish is doing her best to stake out a space of freedom and fluidity, expanding her range of collaborators (Vince Staples, Khalid) and dodging easy definition. “If people think I have a sound, if people are like, ‘Oh yeah, her sound is this,’ if someone asks you what my sound is and you have an answer for them—you’re wrong,” she said. “Instead of trying to find a sound, when I want to make something and when I have an idea of what I want to make, I’m just going to make that.” Her third album, Happier Than Ever, which found her charting a path of self-discovery, arrived in 2021. The following year, she performed an Apple Music Live session at London’s O2 Arena. - Apple Music

Biography

Talk about an unexpected career trajectory. In 2007, 23-year-old Calvin Harris released I Created Disco, a cheeky shot across dance music’s bow that presented him as Scotland’s brow-arched answer to LCD Soundsystem. Fast-forward a few years, and the scruffy fellow playing house-party host in the “Merrymaking at My Place” video is suddenly baring oil-slicked abs on Emporio Armani billboards. What happened, of course, is that Harris (born Adam Richard Wiles in 1984) traded up from the Amiga computer of his teens, developed some of the best studio chops in the business with deep-house rollers like 2013's “Thinking About You”, and helped spark EDM’s pop crossover with hits for Rihanna, Florence Welch, Ellie Goulding and others. Along the way, he became one of the 2010s’ first DJ/producer/songwriter polymaths to earn top billing even on the songs in which he didn’t sing. No stranger to pyro-lit main stages—his percussive, synth-strafed 2014 single “C.U.B.A.” is big-room house at its most gargantuan—Harris has resisted getting boxed into any one sound. On 2017’s Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, he lays down a set of slinky R&B jams for Frank Ocean, Migos and Young Thug, while the 2018 singles “Promises”, with Sam Smith, and “One Kiss”, with Dua Lipa, proved just how versatile his vision of pop can be. - Apple Music

Biography

In an Apple Music interview from mid-2020, The Kid LAROI reminisced about the short but formative time he spent in LA living with the late emo rapper Juice WRLD. They’d hang out all day, bonding, making music, seeing friends, whatever. People always coming and going, never a dull moment. Sometimes, Juice would wake LAROI up in the middle of the night, wild with excitement about a track LAROI had to put a verse on. Other mornings, LAROI would wake up to his and Juice’s managers saying it was time to pack up and head to Texas. Like, now. He was 15, 16 years old. “I’d never experienced anything like that,” he said. “Especially coming from Australia, where everything is kind of like its own bubble.” Not that 15-year-olds outside Australia would be used to it either. But such is the meteoric ascent of a talented young rapper circa 2020. Born Charlton Howard in 2003, LAROI—whose name is a reference to the Kamilaroi Indigenous nation, in which he has family roots—grew up in the suburbs of Sydney, and began to work on music when he was a pre-teen. Like Juice WRLD, Post Malone or even Lil Peep, LAROI’s key tracks—“ALWAYS DO”, “TRAGIC” and the Juice WRLD collaboration “GO”—blend ultra-melodic trap with shades of alternative rock and classic pop, a fusion that has put him on the front burner of pop-rap. His first album, F*CK LOVE, hit the Top 10 before he turned 18. - Apple Music

'Infamous', I don't think Calvin is famous for the wrong reasons, Jack Saunders.
free promo for Post Malone's album :/
Everything I've heard from Gracie feels like a pastiche of someone else, but her top 40 hits have all been various shades of nice.

Yes! She is very "tonight Matthew, I'm going to be..." depending on the song

Biography

Jimin had spent only six months as a K-pop trainee when he debuted in BTS—the least amount of any of the band’s members. With his natural charisma and strong background in contemporary dance, Jimin was considered a shoo-in for the group, but it would be years before he would get comfortable with his vocals. After more than a decade with BTS, though, Jimin would become one of the most distinctive voices in K-pop. Born in Korea’s southern city of Busan as 박지민 (or Park Jimin) in 1995, Jimin moved to Seoul at 16 to become a trainee at Big Hit Entertainment. In 2013, he debuted alongside RM, JIN, SUGA, j-hope, V, and Jung Kook as a dancer and vocalist in 방탄소년단 (or Bangtan Sonyeondan, aka BTS). They would go on to become one of the most successful musical artists of all time. In 2016, when BTS made international waves with the single “Blood Sweat & Tears,” it was Jimin’s raspy, sensual intro that lured in many new listeners. He further cemented his reputation as a uniquely expressive performer with the release of BTS solo songs “Lie” (2016), “Serendipity” (2017), and “Filter” (2020). In 2023, during a BTS group hiatus, Jimin collaborated with Taeyang, of BIGBANG, on the R&B track “VIBE” and released a solo mini-album called FACE. A six-track record written over a period of 10 months about Jimin’s intense feelings during the initial pandemic period, FACE hit at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, with synth-pop lead single “Like Crazy” debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Co-written by Jimin, the album is about confronting one’s self in order to become a better artist. “Finally free,” he sings again and again on “Set Me Free, Pt. 2,” a self-liberation song that features Jimin rapping—a reminder that finding one’s voice is not only a continuous, lifelong process for an artist, but one that can lead in unexpected directions. - Apple Music
