Biography

Chappell Roan specializes in jubilant, femme-positive pop that combines a strong romantic streak with a hunger for grand experiences. Kayleigh Rose Amstutz (born in 1998 in Willard, MO) began posting cover-song videos online in her teens, and after releasing her first EP, School Nights, in 2017, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her pop-star dreams. In early 2020 she connected with producer Dan Nigro, and that April she released “Pink Pony Club,” a torchy ballad about thriving at “a special place/where boys and girls can all be queens every single day.” Roan released a smattering of singles, including the writhing “My Kink Is Karma” and the yearning “Casual,” before putting out her first full-length, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, in September 2023. Roan’s unbridled, lusty pop songs became an online phenomenon—or, as she might put it, a “femininomenon”—and she hit the arena circuit when she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the latter’s GUTS tour in early 2024. - Apple Music

Biography

As Noah Kahan changes, he casts those experiences onto songs like light through a film projector. At the core of the music’s upbeat energy and unfiltered lyrics, you’ll hear who he was before and who he became — almost in real-time. The Vermont singer still pens songs straight from the heart and still cracks jokes with his signature, self-deprecating sense of humor; he’s just changed in all of the right ways (and chronicled them via his songwriting). He gained that understanding through quite the journey from small town Vermont to global renown. He’s racked up over one billion streams, released two full length albums (Busyhead, 2019 and I Was/I Am, 2021) and a mid-pandemic EP (Cape Elizabeth, 2020), picked up a Gold Certification for “Hurt Somebody” feat. Julia Michaels, and performed on television shows such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and TODAY. Not to mention, he’s collaborated with everyone from Joy Oladokun to Chelsea Cutler to mxmtoon to Quinn XCII to Gryffin. After 5 years of critical acclaim and global touring, he sought an even purer style of writing and arrangement, a challenge from within to convey a vivid representation of what he loves, fears, and struggles with most passionately. Now, Noah continues to progress with his highly anticipated new album Stick Season out now. - Spotify

Biography

Coldplay isn’t only one of the most popular English bands but also a torchbearer for an art-rock sound whose roots reach back through Radiohead, U2, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles. Yes, the music is anthemic enough to fill arenas—“Clocks,” “Speed of Sound,” “Paradise,” “A Sky Full of Stars”—but detailed and atmospheric, too, stretching the conventions of modern rock without ever losing the emotional thread. Formed in London in the late ’90s, the band debuted with 2000’s Parachutes. Seasons have changed—the arty experiments of 2008’s Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, the electro rush of 2011’s Mylo Xyloto, the eclecticism of 2019’s Everyday Life—but the core of its sound has been consistent: Propulsive, uplifting, grand but vulnerable. In step with the earnest spirit of its music, the band has also poured considerable resources into philanthropy: performing at Live 8, sponsoring Ocean Cleanup efforts, and notably investing in renewable energy to power 2021's Music of the Spheres World Tour. Whether in crowded bars, lonely bedrooms, closing out the London 2012 Summer Olympics, or headlining the Super Bowl 50 four years later, the effect is more or less the same: At the end of the day, Coldplay comes for the heart. - Apple Music

off work this afternoon but caught up in errands so can’t tune into the chart - great to see Gracie Abrams climb into the top 40 & ‘Houdini’ drop out! can’t imagine there will be much else of note this week unfortunately
What’s his obsession with Stick Season? Can’t he go one week without playing it?
they're picking all the wrong songs to play :/
Only the 10th song to reach 45 consecutive weeks in the Top 40

Many more would achieve it but with Christmas songs taking up the entire top 10 now it means you can only achieve it if you release your song in December/January; so only a small sample of songs even have the chance to

Edited by BellyClarkson

They already played the remix of this before the charts, they should've skipped it.

Biography

The Blessed Madonna is the divine alias of Marea Stamper, the Kentucky-born, London-based DJ, producer, and label owner revered for her rapturous fusions of techno, disco, and electro. Stamper found community selling party gear and mixtapes at local raves as a teenager, and later cutting her teeth as a radio DJ at the University of Louisville. She relocated to Chicago, where she became resident DJ at the nightlife haven Smartbar and spearheaded the city’s Daphne Festival, which put a much-needed spotlight on women and non-binary DJs. Stamper's first original release in 2012, “Alright This Morning,” melded disco and Chicago house, laying the foundation for her acclaimed 2016 breakthrough, “He Is the Voice I Hear.” She moved to London following a sold-out 13-week run at XOYO nightclub in 2017, launched her record label We Still Believe in 2018, and was later tapped to helm Dua Lipa's 2020 LP Club Future Nostalgia, where she worked with the likes of Missy Elliott, Jamiroquai, and the other Madonna. - Apple Music

I know the chart isn't that fast moving but surely Wildflower, Dancing In The Dark, Red Wine Supernova and Nights Like This could have been played over these absolutely ancient (or in Coldplay case just shit) songs.

And then he waffles on about things obviously he is just interested in. I like tuning in every now and then but it's painful lately.

I mean, I can sort of understand skipping 'Red Wine Supernova' if they're gonna play two Chappell songs later (much as I'd rather have heard that than the whiny thing after it)
Only the 10th song to reach 45 consecutive weeks in the Top 40

I’m a bit surprised it’s that many tbh. Could Ed’s record be under threat? Assuming Thinking out Loud still holds it?

Biography

When Madonna Louise Ciccone was 15, she put on a black silk cape and the biggest platform shoes she owned, snuck out of her bedroom window in suburban Michigan, and hitchhiked to Detroit to see David Bowie live. The night changed her life—not just because the music was great, but because, as she put it more than 20 years later while accepting Bowie’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, “it was great theater. Here was this beautiful, androgynous man, just being so…perverse.” More than a musician, Madonna—like Bowie then and Kanye West now—is a supreme cultural curator. She's an artist capable of combining styles and images in ways that are both novel and groundbreaking, who changes with such frequency and confidence that change has become her defining characteristic. Born in Bay City, Michigan, in 1958, she spent her childhood studying ballet, later moving to New York to try and make it as a dancer. (She was fired from a brief stint at a Times Square Dunkin’ Donuts after spraying a customer—either accidentally or on purpose, she never confirmed—with donut jelly.) After playing in a couple of New Wave bands, she went solo, exploring a simple, almost punky, almost amateurish take on dance music (“Borderline,” “Lucky Star”) that brought the grandeur of disco down to human scale. She remained more or less invincible throughout the '80s, releasing a string of albums (Like a Virgin, True Blue, and Like a Prayer) that continue to define the era. Like Prince, her music was immediate but her character was incredibly complex: She could be brassy (“Material Girl”) and sweet (“Open Your Heart”), earnest (“Papa Don’t Preach”) and playful (“Like a Virgin”), sacred and profane—a variety that widened the emotional spectrum for pretty much every female pop artist in her wake. In the ’90s, she shifted her focus more explicitly to the intersection of sex and power (Erotica, Bedtime Stories, the photo book Sex), with a sound that flirted with house, new jack swing, and late-night R&B. (Between “Vogue” and the tour documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare, it was also a moment when she leaned into her support of the LGBTQ community—a relationship that has defined her career.) Just as quickly as she’d embraced her inner sinner, she pivoted, first with a role as former Argentinian first lady Eva Perón in the 1996 film and soundtrack Evita, then with the 1998 album Ray of Light—projects that rechristened her as a mature, soul-searching artist in a chaotic world. She kept pace through the 2000s and 2010s, exploring disco, electro, and minimalistic takes on ’80s dance music, continuing to track the sound of the times while always, somehow, remaining herself. When she was a young woman pursuing a dance career in New York, she’d been given a nickname by the famed choreographer Martha Graham: Madame X, a shape-shifting woman whose identity was, as the name suggests, a variable. About 40 years later, she embraced the moniker for 2019’s Madame X, an album influenced by the yearning fado music of her adopted home of Lisbon, Portugal. - Apple Music
