May 15, 20241 yr There are a lot of rumours flying around that the Spice Girls are booking stadiums in Australia to be announced soon for early 2025. In 2019 it was supposed to be announced late June for Feb 2020 dates. So they might be using the same time line. Me, an Australian, just found three reports online about the rumoured 2025 Australian concert at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, (capacity: 100,024). Why in the future after all this time? Surely, if they had ever seriously intended and planned to tour Down Under, they would have done it by now. I doubt it will ever happen. Melanie B always says nonsense that is not true. As previously mentioned, if they are planning to tour Australia, either: Sydney and Melbourne, or also Brisbane and Perth would be the major cities that could have Spice Girls concerts. In 2008, they cancelled a concert for Sydney (17 January). Their only group visit to Australia (Sydney and Melbourne), was in late 1997 to promote Spiceworld: The Movie. Australia had always been a huge market for the Spice Girls — their first two albums went six times platinum each, and we were the only country in the world to send their Greatest Hits to number one in the charts. In the last week, Melanie C was visiting Australia on her second tour here. Despite some cancelled concerts. Below is the report in yesterday's edition of the Herald Sun newspaper in Melbourne: Are the Spice Girls coming to Australia? May 14, 2024 | Herald Sun: Web Edition Articles (Melbourne, Australia) Author/Byline: Jackie Epstein | Section: Melbourne Confidential 358 Words Read News Document Australia may soon be spicing up its life as rumours intensify that the Spice Girls will perform at the MCG early next year. The iconic '90s girl group hasn't performed together since the 2012 London Olympics and after a recent get-together for Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday bash, it's what we all really, really want. More industry speculation surfaced on 3AW (Melbourne AM talk radio station) on Tuesday that the group would perform early next year at the MCG. Mel B said in March that they were "definitely doing something" in celebration of their 30th anniversary as a group. Brown, appearing on Today, said, without elaborating further: "This is going to be really good and the fans are going to be really happy about it." She also said recently on the British talk show Loose Women: "Oh, no, we are definitely doing something. I'm probably going to get told off, but I've said it. There you go. We'll be announcing at some point later this year. Now, I'm going to be in trouble". Last month, Beckham's husband, former soccer star David Beckham, posted a video from his wife's birthday celebration showing her singing "Stop" with Brown, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton. "I mean come on x,'' he captioned the post. David Beckham has shared footage of the Spice Girls singing along to one of their biggest hits at wife Victoria's 50th birthday party. If that wasn't enough of a tease, Beckham's son Cruz shared another video earlier of the group singing "Mama" alongside him playing the acoustic guitar. He simply wrote in the caption, "You're welcome…". Mel C was in Australia again last month for a DJ set. Last November when she performed at the Heaps Gay Harbour Party in Sydney she said she'd be back "really soon" and "may have some friends with (her)". She also made a brief appearance during the Melbourne Cup Carnival and last month performed at Poof Doof on Chapel St. After splitting in 2001, the Spice Girls have remained friends and reunited for a reunion tour back in 2019, minus Victoria. May 15, 20241 yr There have been confirmations from a staff member at one other stadium and also a couple of other fans online have mentioned they have also been told that ' a major girl group is scheduled to play in Aus next year'... I am taking it all with a pinch of salt, specially because a lot of time these rumours are planted by the local promoters and/or the girls' own team to gather interest or to start a buzz about a potential tour they have provisionally agreed to. We know that this has happened a couple of times in the past (a tour in 2014 was scheduled before it was pulled, and so was a 2020 set of dates booked in for Australia) where things are on-going and then one or two members changes their minds and it all falls apart. Before that though, some articles and rumours are planted to start getting interest and a buzz from the public. It's sad that we are now at a place where no-one believes it until we get a final confirmation lol

May 15, 20241 yr Taylor Swift toured Australia in February, with 3 concerts at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and 4 in Sydney (Accor Stadium). Let's show those Swifties (fans) a thing or two. If there is a Western pop act - besides Pink - that can take on those numbers in Australia, the Spice Girls would be it! :cheer:
May 15, 20241 yr Also, on Spiceworld, it is interesting that this article came out today: https://movieweb.com/spice-world-not-streaming/ Might there be an internal campaign happening? Also, this quote: There is a bit of uncertainty around why Spice World is still unavailable to stream in any capacity, with rumors of 'saving' it for an anniversary event being the most hopeful reason. The film was available briefly for purchase/rent through iTunes, but it was pulled a few months after being added to the platform. The most likely reason for its unavailability is conflict between the film and the music; PolyGram Filmed Entertainment owns the rights to the movie, while Universal Music Group owns the global rights to all Spice Girls music. However, while rights issues seem like the most obvious answer, it is speculation from the fandom as to why Spice World remains off digital platforms. If it is a rights issue, I wouldnt be surprised actually. We all know how bad Simon was/is with music rights (cough cough Emma's catalogue). If this is what stops the movie being available, I will riot outside Simon's house!! Edited May 15, 20241 yr by Mr.X

They were days away from announcing 2014 and 2020 and neither happened. I'd say it is probably true their team have the dates on hold but that absolutely doesn't mean it will happen.

May 17, 20241 yr When their 2019 tour was announced, wasn't there only about 5 days before tickets went on sale (in whichever form and method), and 6 months before the tour began? Do they need a team most of the time now? Edited May 17, 20241 yr by Aussie
May 17, 20241 yr When their 2019 tour was announced, wasn't there only about 5 days before tickets went on sale (in whichever form and method), and 6 months before the tour began? Do they need a team most of the time now? What do you mean?... Of course there is a team working with them. You don't expect it to be Mel B or Gerita calling the booking agent at Wembley Stadium to sort out the dates, technical logistics and ticket prices do you? :teresa: Before the announcement, there are months of preparation to get the details of the tour sorted, as well as marketing strategies are in place, photoshoots have to be done, posters printed, etc. WHen they announced in 2018, they had been in preparations for months with TWO management teams behind them (Simon's and that other touring specific one). Beyond that, there is a marketing team, a PR team, a Design team, a music/live team, production managers, touring agents in each location, etc. All of that has to be settled before any public announcement is done.
May 17, 20241 yr I just read that Girls Aloud, dispite charging upwards of £200 for tickets, are also not using a live band in their latest tour. I just gotta say that I absolitely dispise this trend in pop acts, specially as most of them just straight up sound like karaoke (hello Little Mix production levels!!) and the music flat. The Spice Girls tour in 2019 already sounded almost like a CD was playing, even though that also had a band (whcih I am certain werent actually playing at least for the first act, or during Love Thing for instance!). If they go this route as well and dont have a live band, I will be so pissed!! Live instrumentation MAKES the live show an actually interesting experience. We need it back for a new tour! I hope this trend DIES a very nasty death, because these pop acts are charging through the root and trying to save money by cutting on the actual music? Idiots.
May 17, 20241 yr I just meant that as they are no longer doing much together, whether they would need regular or many staff except for when certain projects, events, or functions occur. Edited May 17, 20241 yr by Aussie
May 17, 20241 yr Just stumbled across this article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-57734073 All four were selected to form the band alongside 17-year-old Michelle Stephenson - "the sort of girl you can imagine in a Flake advert", said Victoria - who had received the highest scores at the audition. love her humour! And never knew she got the highest scores! underrated queen.

May 18, 20241 yr I 100% agree, am fuming myself if this is the case as I am seeing them in Leeds! It's true, no live band. Straight up CD player. I saw some pictures and clips online. Look, im sure it is a fun show, but it looks barebones and cheap, and the no band thing trully sounds flat. It's just plain wrong... I mean, people used to criticise the last The Saturdays tour for being barebones and with no band, but this seems to be the standard now (and charging much much more expensive tickets too damn) Edited May 18, 20241 yr by Mr.X

Mel B was the all round star of the band - could dance, could sing, very confident and stand-out stage presence I would have assumed Mel C tbh but then she was always my fave :kink: Maybe Mel B got marked down because of her gobbiness  - Off-topic but when was the last Spice rate? I can’t seem to find the thread.
May 18, 20241 yr Well, Mel C wasn't even selected to join the band at the first round (she was called in with Lianne was dropped due to looking too old for the band). Don't forget the early TOUCH demo had Victoria as one of the lead vocalists!
