It will flop, they are not ABBA and need to stop thinking they are!

  • It's such a bad bad idea... And this was clearly planted by Simon and his team to see if there is any traction to it. Ive had a look and all comments everywhere seem very negative, so that should be a

It's a horrible idea at this point, it's simply far too early. By all means think about doing it in 2046... but not now!! They're only in their early 50s (or 49 x), there's really no valid excuses for

Omg what??!! How did I not know this!

Yes the original line up was:

1. Victoria (lead vocal)

2. Melanie B

3. Geri

4. Melanie L

5. Michelle

Then Melanie L was dropped and it became:

1. Victoria (still lead vocal who knows???)

2. Melanie B

3. Geri

4. Melanie C

5. Michelle

Then they booted out / Michaelle chose to go to Uni, look after a sick relative, didn't think they'd make it... the various excuses parroted out and it was:

1. Victoria

2. Mel B

3. Geri

4. Melanie C

5. Emma

I've always wondered what would have happened had those 5 particular girls not been in the band, would they have hit the heights they did?

I thought Geri joined after Mel C? Didn't she miss the original audition because she was away?
Wow!!!! :o

Having watched tonnes of their early days' clips, I could never understand why she was named "scary". Who felt so small around her that they had to nickname her scary? Of course the name stuck, so over the years, I noticed she accepted/adopted that persona. I'd say Geri was more talkative than Melanie B.

Probably not. We don't know the personalities of the other girls, but I feel that part of why the final lineup worked was that there was a good mix of dominant personalities (Geri &Mel B) and the not so dominant ones. If they were five Geris and/or Mel Bs, it would have crashed from the get-go. But they needed those two to steal demos and push boundaries in a way that made them the force they were.

There was also another girl before Emma called Abigail but she decided against it because of a jealous boyfriend?

Didn’t a TOTP magazine writer come up with the names? I know what you mean though. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some racist undertones there - it was the 90s after all. Besides that though, I notice in the early interviews she was very dominant and wouldn’t mind making interviewers/journalists uncomfortable in a banter kind of way. It must have been both a dream and a nightmare to interview them at the beginning

Yeah there were definitly racist undertones there, even if it wasnt on purpose. Even Mel addressed it during the Black Lives Matter era in some interview...

I do think she knew about this as well and took it in her stride and made it her own. Which is empowernig, but it is crazy to think that it was so blatantly used the world over as a signifyer to 'the black one in the group' you know?

Peter Lorraine who was the editor of TOTP has explained how they got their nicknames after he met them. He said Mel B sat on his knee and said "You're scared of me aren't you?". That is how she became Scary Spice.

Geri was originally going to be Saucy Spice in the article but they toned that down and Mel C Scouse Spice.

Interesting. Glad Geri became Ginger in the end because it’s perfect for her (hair colour and her strong personality). Scouse Spice again would’ve been crap and would alienate anyone outside of Liverpool lol.

Ginger slways meant saucy tbh, so not sure why she took it upon herself to reinvent it into landed gentŕy white dress spice

Anyone seen Mel B's stories?....

If there was ever any truth to those tour rumours, it's all definitely back in the bin :nocheer:

Sounds like she is pushing for the three of them to do something.

Vocally, that's probably sufficient. Imagine performing Wannabe without Mel B, or 2 Become 1 without Emma, or any of their songs without Mel C.

This kinda reminds me of 2016 when GEM was a thing, and sang Song For Her!

Anyway, I never thought any sort of reunion was happening. Victoria and Geri are so over it, and I don't blame them so much!

Vocally it would still work they are the three essential vocalists to the group, although Victoria's harmonies were definitely missed on the last tour. I'm just not convinced the public would buy into a 3 piece Spice Girls for it to be massively successful, definitely wouldn't be any stadiums that's for sure. Maybe a small arena tour or a theatre one?

It is the only 3 piece I would accept as they are the voice and stage presence of the Spice Girls. I say why not, in 60 years we will all likely be dead and no one will care if 3 Spice Girls did a tour an album together. Live for the moment.

Also I think people would underestimate how big even 3 of them have as a pull. If 4 can sell out massive stadiums, 3 can do arenas no problem. Australia would lap up any Spice Girls gig so they would actually be wise to start there and it start off looking very successful from the off.

I mean if they get the support act right no reason they couldn't do a few stadiums in Australia as a 3 piece. Whilst most of us can say well I saw them in 2007 or 2019 so I might give a 3 piece 2025 tour a miss, most Australians have never had that option.

MCG stadium with Girls Aloud as the support act equals winner I'm sure.

I can't see any circumstance in which Girls Aloud decide to support Spice Girls on an Australian tour, plus I don't see the draw as they aren't exactly a well known band over there anyway?

I could see Girls Aloud supporting a 4 / 5 piece Spice Girls Hyde Park or Stadium tour in the UK (my god I'd be there like a SHOT), but otherwise they can sell arenas themselves in the UK so that isn't an option either.

Emma and Mel B are the most loyal spices. They're the only two that have been there in literally every reunion. The beans-on-toast-eating, party-loving spices!
