I don't think anyone is blaming Mel B for the lack of reunion at all, they are criticising some of her behaviour in response to it which is a little childish (and sometimes hilarious, the hen Victoria Peckham and Geri Henniwell was hilarious).

Also that is such an easy recycled story I wouldn't pay an attention to trashy mags, the amount of times they have posted "David and Victoria at breaking point" articles from a "source." Rags of journalism, then again all celebrity journalism is.

I suspect it is true tbf.

Basically this one and Never be the same again are so good, I kinda wish they were on Forever lol.

Was just reading this article on how CD sales are going up whereas Digital Downloads are going down in general, which seems to be the new trend since last year and was wondering why the girls haven't had a proper standard CD in circulation other than their Greatest Hits...

For me, this was the missed opportunity of both Spice25 and Spiceworld25 campaigns, where both releases lacked a standard CD of just the normal 10songs for wider consumption? For better or worse, CDs are still the main sellers of physical copies (or at least second to vinyls only!) and are probably the cheapest to make and sell.

Most CDs go for £7-10 in general, which would make casual buyers more willing to buy them over a £40 vinyl.

I know that Spice has been in circulation for a long time and there were still some left-over copies available during the time of the Spice25 release. But why not do a Spice25 limited run at least too?

Specially for Spiceworld, which has not been in circulation on CD for well over a decade, it seemed like a really clear and misguided omission from the releases (specially when the vinyls were so lacking in content to justify many buying them!!). I mean they did f***ing cassettes (5 versions of the same for Spice25 too lol the Spiceworld25 at least was cute but pointless and expensive as hell lol)

Having both Spice and Spiceworld on CD available on HMV and supermarkets for like £10 would be good imo, it would boost their sales but also continue to have them present for the General Public...

In short, I am still quite baffled that they did so many vinyl variations with the same content, plus Cassettes (!!!!) and the 2CD one for both campaigns but no standard CD release at all???

What were they thinking???....

I found it bizarre how their label treated CDs as such a "lesser format" during the Spice 25 and Spiceworld 25 campaigns! Firstly no CD for Wannabe 25, and then as you mention, only one expensively-priced deluxe CD for each album reissue. Spice 25 sold like 1,400 CDs in the UK in that first week... pitiful, really. That's a format you should be able to sell thousands of.

It was such a misfire, coming from a group who were big in an era that was dominated by CD sales. It would have made perfect sense to lean into that nostalgia, but no...

Yeah it was really baffling, specially when Spice25 had sooooooo many variants on cassettes and vinyls (some of which are still available to sell online today!!) and CDs are still the main selling formats outside of vinyls.. really stupid decision... The Spiceworld 2CD release is still also widely available too.....

Spice and Spiceworld SCREAM a proper standard CD being available at HMV and local shops. It's a no-brainer!! I bet Spiceworld's sales would have had a bigger increase by now if that was the case. Plus, since CDs seems to be on a steady rise again, I would hope they would release a standard version of the Forever25 one, even if as a limited one only. I could see a limited run doing well, to be honest, with a new cover :teresa:

I mean the fact that they had the designs for the vinyls does just make the lack of individual CDs being available alongside them very weird!? It was an obvious money maker. But then they totally ignored that the individual covers were what really pushed Spice25's sales when it came to Spiceworld25 so there really is no making sense of their decisions?

Ah yeah I remember the whole thing about the 5 cassettes LOL it would make much more sense to have 5 individual CDs of Spice rather than the stupid cassettes that no-one cares about

The cassettes makes me think of the fan on Spice Circle who bought a huge number of them, all so that he could have five copies with the spine text/images perfectly alligned. :kink:

from the DailyMail latest article on Geri (im not linking to that nazi rag, no matter how much gerita loves to give them news and family photos!)

"Meanwhile, the Spice Girls are said to be searching for a manager to help choreograph a reunion and secure them a series of 'big gigs' – despite one industry insider joking it would be one of the 'toughest jobs in music'.

Victoria Beckham refuses to get involved, and Geri, 52, shelved reunion plans when Christian was accused this year of misconduct.

He has since been cleared of any wrongdoing, and it now appears Geri is keen to join her bandmates."

I have a few questions on this:

- So they have no management again? I remember they seemingly left Simon in 2020/2021 (mentioned by Biff that they had a new management woman who was 'amazing'... did we ever find out who they were?

- Could they still sell out stadiums the world over or is their time 'past'?

- Will this be a limited tour of the UK again or do you think they would ifnally go all out for a tour again? I find it embarrassing that they never toured outside of UK/Europe/USA

I recall Mel C said that they let Geri managed the band post-Covid. But since she doesn’t want to be involved so maybe it’s just the other three who are getting a manager to help them get things in motion?

Hhmmmm I just noticed something... does anyone know when the writing credits for their songs in their first two albums started to shift into individual crediting instead of the 'group'?

Basically back in the day, prior to Geri leaving, they were always credited as 'Spice Girls', and for Goodbye and Forever, they were listed individually so as to avoid Geri getting any money from such releases, whereas I would imagine that Geri under 'Spice Girls' as a writing credit beneficiary for the first two albums.

Their collective crediting is even in the Spice25 and Spiceworld25 inlay, meaning that it didnt change with time for those songs at least. BUT if you go on Spotify, they are now individually credited for the songs, whereas beforehand they were still collectively credited. Mel B is even credited as 'Mel B' rather than her full name Melanie Brown as she is credited in Forever/Goodbye. For reference, she started to go by Mel B officially after her divorce (I think!!).

So do we know more about this? Or is it a mistake on Spotify?

I guess we would also find out in the new clear vinyl release of Spice if anything has changed since 2021's Spice25

The Spice Girls have been nominated for Ultimate British Group at the BBC as part of the Album National Day (same project that is releasing the new Spice vinyl) and you can vote for it now!!!

It is quite a nice award if they can get it! Please vote (if you are outside the UK, use a VPN to vote!!):

At PopJustice forum, an interesting investigation into some of the mixing of Spice Girls and solo-Spice Girls music by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent has highlighted some potential interesting things:

Originally, all Spice album songs were mixed by engineers Andy Bradfield, Al Stone and Dave Way, all of whom are more r'n'b leaning. Spike only came in after the success of Wannabe and Say You'll Be There single mixes, who then mixes all the remaining singles too.

Due to this success, he was then in charge of mixing all the songs in Spiceworld album instead, as well as Outer Space Girls b-side. Since we know that Walk of Life was originally intended for the album (there are promos of the album with its inclusion as Track 8), and none of the other b-sides were mixed by Spike, it would be safe to say that maybe Outer Space Girls was also originally intended for the album but ultimately then left off. So maybe we had originally a 12-track album being planned, before both OSG and WOL being relegated to b-sides.

Goobye was the last track he worked on from the girls. I wonder how Forever would have panned out if he mixed those songs too! I would imagine he would have had they released the album in 1999 with pop and r'n'b tracks as it was originally planned.

He also was sent, prior to release of the album, all singles from Geri's solo album as well as Walk Away (which leads us to think that it was meant to be a single as well).

Victoria sent four tracks to Spike to create single mixes: Not Such An Innocent Girl, A Mind of Its Own, IOU and Like That prior to the album being released, not the rest of the album at all either, which leads me to think these four were the originally planned singles before the campaign took a halt after AMOIO flopping

Anyway nothing major, but I thought it was interesting that songs like Outer Space Girls were potentially intended for the album (it always screamed b-side to me) and tracks like Walk Away, IOU and Like That were potential singles from Geri and Victoria.

I think once Backstreet Boys released Backstreet's back in the summer of 1997, they knew Outer Space girls would draw comparisons and relegated it to B-side instead. Which is maybe why they considered Walk of Life instead?

Oh probably but honestly I think Outer Space Girls is just tips the edge of cheesiness they were labelled as, as they probably decided to not include it to move on from that a bit too. The closest to the level of cheesiness of that song in the album is Do It and that is already quite b-side level so I am glad they also kept that one away.

Really they should have included Step To Me (mixed by Spike) and Walk of Life in the album.

No, they were leaving Walk of Life for a Forever rerelease, as a quadruple a-seed with Billie Piper.

Crazy to think that the last ever 5-piece tour was actually their worst ever :(

Of course it has some highlights, but the dark and boring staging, the awful set list and the costumes really kill the enjoyment for me. I went to see it at the 02 at the time and whilst of course it was amazing to see them for the first time, it was all a bit meh to be honest...

High points:

- Viva Forever - perfect, specially the music arrangement

- Stop

- Mama

- 2 Become 1

- Goodbye

- The intro was cute too, a great way to start the show

The mid-points:

- Who Do You Think You Are (the staging, cos the fact that it wasnt live was too noticeable)

- Holler (purely for the novelty of finally getting a live performance, but they sounded terrible and the arrangement wasnt the best either...)

- Headlines (it was cute with this live arrangement, though the staging could have been better...)

- Too Much (it was fine, but nothing special... I dont think the remix was particularly interesting at all)

- Wannabe (I often find Wannabe is just sort of.... there... when it comes to their live tours... a bit meh)

Low points:

- The solos were totally pointless... we wanted ALBUM TRACKS!!! At best, a solo medley would have been cute but this was just trash

- That awful Celebration covers medley...

- That awful If You Can't Dance performance...

- The Spice Up Your Life reprise. Totally pointless and awful

- The costumes... like, what the f*** was that?...

- The talking bits they had a certain points, were so clearly scripted that just sounded fake as f***...

- The cancellation

In comparison, I think their first ever live show still holds today as their best: Istanbul. All 5 were amazing, the staging was moody but cool and the vibe was Spice with an edge. The only thing I am missing from Istanbul show is a couple more Spiceworld tracks like Viva Forever and Never Give Up On The Good Times. Apart from that it was perfect!

Second would be Christmas in Spice World for the live arrangements and set list alone! Plus, *some of the girls* were incredible live at the time! Those performances of Step To Me, Viva Forever and Never Give Up were just incredible. The only bad bits were Mel C (sorry but she really didnt seem like she wanted to be there) and the costumes.

What where your favourite and least favourite live shows?
