seriously? I never knew this, what a shit line

I think it was to do with the mother trying to get her daughter to stop wearing a football kit and go out to meet guys. I'd forgotten all about it until I saw that link and suddenly it came back to me.

I was at this too! It was such a lovely surprise to see Mel - loved when she inserted part of Stop into the second song too. Never thought I’d get to see Mel do When You’re Gone live! Such a great r

Just on my way home from seeing KT Tunstall at Royal Albert Hall tonight. Mel came on as a surprise guest and did "When You're Gone" and "I've Had The Time Of My Life" (off Dirty Dancing) with her! Na

I missed Rick and Roger as I had to dash to get my tube back to Liverpool Street for my connecting train home! But yeah, bloody amazing gig. She does indeed have an extensive contacts book 🤣 Here's m

I wonder how she felt about that line, alongside one of her songs being on the soundtrack! Seeems like a slap in the face.

Exactly... specially at a time when she was going through so much with her own self esteem

Thanks for further context

New interview with Mel is in the Aussie paper The Sunday Morning Herald today (it's behind a paywall, but you can read it here):

This part amused me!

The five members discuss band matters regularly via a private WhatsApp group, figuring what might be possible for the milestone. “And there are subgroups within the group,” says Chisholm, laughing. “I definitely know there is a chat group that doesn’t contain me, but somewhere else we keep Ginger or Posh out. Like all friendship groups, we have many ways of communicating.”

One of the best solo releases for me, I know lots of fans get fed up hearing it close every one of her shows but I think it goes OFF every time and it the perfect way to close her shows.

And if @Mr.X went to one of her shows it gives him the perfect reason to leave before the rest of the crowd! Considerate Mel ❤️

Oh hun you would never find me in a Melanie C solo gig again... I went in 2003 to the Astoria and promised myself never to waste my money again lol

Emma makes a (virtual) cameo on The Voice Australia:

Saw Melanie supporting Bryan Adams yesterday in Warwick. Was an interesting experience seeing her at an event where it wasn’t her own gig with her own fans. She definitely had to work harder to get reactions from the crowd but by the end she got really good cheers.

She told a few stories of Bryan Adams, how he gave her the confidence to have a go at doing it on her own and she owes him a lot for that. About the first time she met him on TOTP “Geri was sat on his knee while Mel B was stroking his hair. Do you think he was scared? Was he f***! He is one of the only men who wasn’t scared of the Spice Girls!” 🤣

She came back ok during his stint and did 2 songs “the only thing that looks good on me is you” and “when you’re gone” and at the end Bryan walked her down the catwalk with her arm held up and bowed with her. He didn’t speak much during his gig but he did say how fantastic she was which was lovely. She got a massive cheer when she came on with him and everyone was filming when you’re gone (which was a more stripped back version).

Setlist from what I can remember:

  1. Anymore

  2. A cover?

  3. Overload

  4. Never be the same again

  5. Another cover?

  6. Going down

  7. Northern star (this was a slowed down acoustic performance and got the best reaction of her set)

  8. Spice up your life

  9. 2 become 1

  10. Who do you think you are

  11. I turn to you

I may have forgotten a song or two but it was only a 35mins set (which was a tad disappointing). The covers were club songs which my husband was familiar with but I wasn’t.

I was kind of hoping she would do more Northern Star and Beautiful Intentions stuff and lean into the rockier stuff with this crowd. They received Going down and Northern star the best (and the spice girls stuff although SUYL didn’t go down well the crowd were a bit meh at that one although she was trying to get the crowd to sing along and do the SPICE UP YOUR LIFE bits - it doesn’t work as a solo song I don’t think).

@Spiceboy Glad to hear you had a good time! The two covers were Gypsy Woman and Touch Me. But how come you didn't mention their joint rendition of Say You'll Be There?

Oh yes… that was terrible. I barely even recognised the song 🙈😂

It seems like the new single will be out next month.
