'Tears On My Pillow' is absolutely horrendous, but some love for 'In My Arms' and 'What Kinda Fool'!

 

I enjoy 'Please Stay' but it's a bit of a nonentity single I always forget exists.

Tears On My Pillow dropped a bit over time for me and I can see that continuing to be honest.

30. What Kind Of Fool (Heard It All Before) I have always had a soft spot for this, apparently Kylie herself does not like it all but i stilll enjoy it.

29. In My Arms Another one i enjoy, have always preferred wow to it and a couple of other album tracks on X but i like it more in later years than i did when it was a single.

28. Tears On My Pillow Not a popular one with fans in general, i like it but dont love it and i do feel she has far better songs that were more worthy of number 1 than this. and im surprised to see this ahead of so many other songs especially all the lovers for example.

27. Locomotion I love this, always have and always will and i loved the recent versions of it that she used on an audience with.

I think in retrospect I do have Tears On My Pillow to high up, I haven't gone back to it much if at all since I finalise these placings. That indicates to me that I was a little generous with this. Agree on In My Arms though, X has some great albums tracks I'd have like to have been a single over this. Locomotion I think will always have a place with me too, it's pretty enjoyable.

 

I'm so glad I discovered What Kind Of Fool (Heard It All Before) doing this. I missed out on it during my album listen through as it wasn't on a studio album. I can kinda understand that with Please Stay too.

Kicking off the section that just misses the top 20 is Your Disco Needs You, the nifal single from Light Years. This was a massive surprise for me as I absolutely detested this song for such a long time and I'm not sure why. My sister owned a copy of Light Years and would play this a lot, so maybe that's why. Wouldn't Change A Thing & Hand On Your Heart are both great early year Kylie classics and I just think it proves for me how much of a fan I've become of the PWL era Kylie. The placing of Chocolate i think will surprise many as I get the feeling it's not a fan favourite, for me though it's been one I've loved from the first time I've heard it. I can say the same for #21 as well, from the moment I first heard Wow I thought WOW! How did this not lead the X era? It's my favourite song from X. Placing these 5 were all so tough as I wanted to put them all in my top 20.

I loved 'Wow' at the time, but I struggle to get any enjoyment from it now. I don't know if it's a case of having outgrown it or overplayed it, or both.

25. Your Disco Needs You Still enjoy this alot, goes down so well in concerts and Kylie always delivers it brilliantly live, i love the live versions more than i do the studio version.

24. Wouldn't Change A Thing I do like this as with all her early work but i think it gets forgotten about sometimes, its a song id like to see Kylie do on a current tour.

23. Hand On Your Heart I do like this aswell, very early bubblegum pop Kylie which i say as a big compliment, my only negative about the song is i dont why but i never connect it with live and 99% of the time i listen to live kylie versions more than studio but not the case with hand on your heart

22. Chocolate One of the very few highlight from the disappointing Body Language era, chocolate didn't click with initially but i went to showgirl and just fell in love with the song,

21. Wow Its by far my favourite single from X and im glad it was the biggest seller from the singles released.

Leading off my top 20 is Step Back In Time which was released in October 1990 and peaked at #5 in Australia and #4 in the UK. This was another one that I was vaguely familiar with before the start of this year, being 2 when this was released I have no memory of it during it's chart run but I do have the odd recollection of hearing it here and there over the years. It's one I really enjoy now. Finer Feelings was another surprise for me as I can't really recall it from my album listen through at the start of the year (perhaps I should go back and check what I wrote), but I really like it. It was close to the top 10 for me initially but dropped as I myranking took shape. Love At First Sight is one I go through phases with, I like it, then love it, then get bored of it. I think I've reached that point now were I think it's a very strong solid pop song. Of all the songs in my ranking I think Slow was the biggest surprise for me, a surprise for how much it grew on me. If you'd have asked me twelve months or even 2 months ago where I'd expect it to place I'd say it'd be luck to crack my top 40. I use to have it on the same level as Can't Get You Out Of My Head, but unlike that one Slow really connected with me on my many recent listens. (I also found it interesting that the video concept for Slow was intended for Rachel Steven's debut solo single Sweet Dreams My LA Ex, as mentioned in her autobiography) (sorry if any spoilers). Finally just missing the top 15 is Light Years second single On A Night Like This. This was actually the very first and if I recall on physical Kylie Minogue single I ever purchased. I can still remember buying it at the shops.
