Posted October 1, 2024Oct 1 As promised, this is the next rate for you all to take part in. This time we are rating hit singles produced by Trevor Horn. He is certainly my favourite record producer, being involved with many of my favourite songs from the 80s and beyond. I was going to include all his UK top 75 singles but I didn't realise how many there were. It would have been 94 songs so I've cut the number down to 79 top 40 hits with the addition of 'Moments In Love' (number 51) which I know is well known and liked on the forum. I have listed the 80 songs in order of the date on which they entered the UK singles chart. They go from 1979 to 2017. As this is a singles rate, I have omitted ABC's debut single, 'Tears Are Not Enough', which was produced by Steve Brown. It was only the later album version for The Lexicon Of Love that was produced by Trevor Horn. The Jags - Back Of My Hand (single remix) Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star Buggles - The Plastic Age Buggles - Clean Clean Dollar - Hand Held In Black And White Dollar - Mirror Mirror (Mon Amour) ABC - Poison Arrow Dollar - Give Me Back My Heart Spandau Ballet - Instinction (single remix) ABC - The Look Of Love Dollar - Videotheque ABC - All Of My Heart Malcolm McLaren and the World's Famous Supreme Team - Buffalo Gals Malcolm McLaren and the McLaranettes - Soweto Malcolm McLaren - Double Dutch Yes - Owner Of A Lonely Heart Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax Propaganda - Dr Mabuse Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two Tribes The Art Of Noise - Close (To The Edit) Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power Of Love Godley & Creme - Cry Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Welcome To The Pleasuredome The Art Of Noise - Moments In Love Grace Jones - Slave To The Rhythm Pet Shop Boys - Left To My Own Devices Simple Minds - Belfast Child Simple Minds - This Is Your Land Pet Shop Boys - It's Alright Simple Minds - Kick It In Simple Minds - Let It All Come Down Rod Stewart - Downtown Train Seal - Crazy Rod Stewart - Rhythm Of My Heart Seal - Future Love Paradise Seal - The Beginning Marc Almond - Jacky Seal - Killer (1991) Marc Almond - My Hand Over My Heart Seal - Violet Marc Almond - The Days Of Pearly Spencer Mike Oldfield - Sentinel Rod Stewart - Tom Traubert's Blues (Waltzing Matilda) Mike Oldfield - Tattoo Rod Stewart - Ruby Tuesday Rod Stewart - Shotgun Wedding Barry Manilow - Could It Be Magic (1993) Seal - Prayer For The Dying Seal - Kiss From A Rose Tom Jones - If Only I Knew The Glam Metal Detectives - Everybody Up! October 1, 2024Oct 1 There are some absolutely fantastic songs in this list, I think this is going to be difficult. Although I'm sure I'll have no trouble culling the final three in the list :kink:
October 1, 2024Oct 1 Looking forward to this. I think sometimes things are not on Spotify for a reason. :D
October 2, 2024Oct 2 Those missing from Spotify are not essential, no loss, bar The Jag's Back Of My Hand aka "Isn't that Elvis Costello?!" I'm going to struggle with this even with the reduced count (for example Seal had a huge chart-topper in my chart with a late 90's single flop that isn't on the list)! 17 of 'em topped my personal charts and another 20 or 30 came close :o I may resort to chart "sales" with a bit of jostling here and there
October 15, 2024Oct 15 Author Just three voters so far, the rest of you have two and a half weeks left.
October 24, 2024Oct 24 Sent my votes - one great discovery in particular. The order of some of these could change on another day but the top five is well fixed.
October 25, 2024Oct 25 That's a disappointingly low number for a vote. Hope we get a good few more, come on people!
October 27, 2024Oct 27 Voted  Ordering my Top 10 (actually Top 12) was incredibly tough. All 10/10 for me, and my Top 5 changed several times. There was one new discovery for me though that made it into my votes. Looking forward to the results of this!
October 27, 2024Oct 27 There are a handful of songs in this rate that I'd completely forgotten about but have really quite enjoyed hearing again Edit, a few notes for now: There is one act currently on track to get 5 songs in my top 30 The score to reach the top 30 is standing at 8/10 Much to my surprise, there are 25 tracks in this that I'd rate 5/10 or lower.
