Iran is lowering the age of consent for girls to 9 so they'll be able to be forced in to marriage at 9 years old. :o Doubt many can even bear children so young.

What government sits around and decides to lower the age of consent ... and to THAT? We still have a lot of work to do for women's rights everywhere, even as the west keeps sliding back. Iraq will likely ignore criticism from rights groupd and government agencies however.

So two consenting (same sex) adults are not allowed to be together, but a grown man can abuse his position and marry a child?!

There is far too much "oh that's just a cultural thing" in core parts of the Middle East. No, it's oppression of the population by men reinforcing their absolute power over everyone else, and it's not at all inevitable in any religion (see other countries that don't do that). The likes of some self-promoting activists (hi P.T.) might like to argue that it's all fine and dandy for what we regard as underage sex in some cultures if it's a loving relationship, but, no, 9-year-old's are children and shouldn't be forced or brainwashed by manipulating adults into something that may well scar them for life and cause problems for them in adulthood. Not to mention stealing their childhood. Other fundamentalist countries in the region are terrible with what they are doing to women, girls, same-sex-attracted people, non-Islamic people and also other non-fundamentalist Islamic people and anyone that tries to protest or point out the injustices. Which they will continue to do until they are forced out by the people or a strong leader with other views, because giving way even slightly will inevitably lead to the end of the regimes, wealth and power of these hypocritical men. Shh don't mention the family members of the rich shopping in the West in Western clothes while murdering girls back home for exposing their hair.

 

This is going on all the time, has done for decades, ignored largely by the media in the West and anyone busy trying to deny reality and truth.
