December 28, 2024Dec 28 Thanks very much for this Severin! I definitely have more appreciation of Prince now than at the beginning, and it’s a fantastic Top 2.
December 28, 2024Dec 28 The correct winner!!! One of the very best songs from the 80s, absolutely love it
December 28, 2024Dec 28 I gave 27 points to 'When Doves Cry' rather than 30, but the scores also add up to 3 too many so I think it's just a mistype. Great winner, even if it's perhaps a fairly obvious one at this point. 'Purple Rain' seems much more of a polarising one, and I wasn't too blown away by it at first myself (then the years of X Factor staple didn't help), but the anthemic nature got me in the end. I'm delighted 'Sign O' The Times' finished third as I had expected it around 7th or 8th, it shone a light on topics which pop songs hadn't really covered before, while the music and the way it just carries on at the end brings it all closer to the everyday. Thank you Severin for running the rate!
December 28, 2024Dec 28 Thanks for running this, Severin. I found out a few things I didn't know about Prince from your commentary. That's quite a large winning margin for When Doves Cry, more than I expected.
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Thanks for running this Severin, and voters for voting, and a fab result overall, notwithstanding my ongoing obliviousness to the OTT Purple Rain, it just plods for me, ironically for a showstopper, and of the competing plodders in the chart around the time it came out I had more love for The Power Of Love and all the other singles off Purple Rain. When Doves Cry and Sign O The Times, though, genius!
