December 21, 20241 yr It was the death of John Lennon that stopped the cavalry from getting Christmas #1 That is incorrect. St Winifred's School Choir was Christmas no.1 in 1980, not John Lennon.
December 21, 20241 yr Ah 15 years since Simon Cowell got a kick up the arse and was forced to think about the XF songs again and to stop doing them crappy key change Westlifesque releases!! Also the 2014 Xmas chart was the last series of XF that seemed to be a force as others have pointed out. Also showed record companies that held back releases were pointless going forward. ‘Uptown Funk’ had a Jan 15 release and Fleurs performance showed the potential loses by holding things back!
December 21, 20241 yr It was the death of John Lennon that stopped the cavalry from getting Christmas #1 Stop the Cavalry only made #3.
December 21, 20241 yr i agree, especially looking at what is going on in the world currently, i find it hard to listren to 'war is over' whilst russia still invades ukraine and isnotreal is still committing a genocide in palestine I’m pretty sure it was released as an Anti-War song for the Vietnam War at that time
December 21, 20241 yr Stop the Cavalry only made #3. It was behind "Imagine" and "War Is Over" for one week (not Christmas), that's probably what the intended point was
December 21, 20241 yr It was behind "Imagine" and "War Is Over" for one week (not Christmas), that's probably what the intended point was It was also at #3 on the Christmas 1980 chart behind St Winifred and Starting Over Edited December 21, 20241 yr by Hadji
December 21, 20241 yr In the Christmas 1980 chart, Stop The Cavalry was behind St Winifred and Starting Over. It was 4th January 1981 where Stop The Cavalry was behind Imagine and War Is Over Yes so John Lennon being murdered didn't "stop the Cavalry" from getting Christmas number one as the school choir would've got there anyway. His murder did end up blocking it from number one in the long run anyhow
December 21, 20241 yr Yes so John Lennon being murdered didn't "stop the Cavalry" from getting Christmas number one as the school choir would've got there anyway. His murder did end up blocking it from number one in the long run anyhow Without John Lennon’s murder, Stop The Cavalry would’ve been Christmas #2 in 1980 and the first #1 of 1981 Edited December 21, 20241 yr by Hadji
December 21, 20241 yr Number ones in 1980/81 if Mark Chapman had stayed in Hawaii: 13/12/80 Super Trouper - ABBA 20/12/80 There’s No One Quite Like Grandma - St Winifred’s School Choir 27/12/80 There’s No One Quite Like Grandma - St Winifred’s School Choir 03/01/81 There’s No One Quite Like Grandma - St Winifred’s School Choir 10/01/81 Stop the Cavalry - Jona Lewie 17/01/81 Antmusic - Adam & the Ants 24/01/81 Antmusic - Adam & the Ants 31/01/81 In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins 07/02/81 In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins 14/02/81 Vienna - Ultravox 21/02/81 Shaddup You Face - Joe Dolce Music Theatre 28/02/81 Shaddup You Face - Joe Dolce Music Theatre 07/03/81 Shaddup You Face - Joe Dolce Music Theatre 14/03/81 Kings of the Wild Frontier - Adam & the Ants 21/03/81 This Ole House - Shakin’ Stevens 28/03/81 This Ole House - Shakin’ Stevens Adam & the Ants would have had 4 #1s in 1981!
