I don't mind download-only songs being able to chart because if it sells enough it should do

 

But it's when album tracks etc. that will be able to chart is the part i thinks not on because it should be a singles chart, and at least give record co. enough control that a song can only chart if it is a single and has a video, albeit only a £200 video, just as long as it's a single in the first place

 

So does this mean that if you download an album each track on the album gets 1 digital sale to contribute to it's chart placing?

I don't think it matters if a song has never been a single before, but appears on an album. If it's downloaded on an individual basis then why not. I guess if non-single tracks were excluded from the "singles chart" (or is it song chart now :unsure: ) then that would probably have meant that Koopa wouldn't have charted with "Blag, Steel & Borrow" this week.

New chart rules are great - shows what people are buying, key examples being Jay Z/Linkin Park back in top 75, also Lynrd Skynrd Sweet Home Alabama and perhaps Billie next week with Honey To The Bee, all would be NCQ before, now though.... all in!

 

I used to get chartplus newsletter every week but no longer do, what surprises are there outside top 75 now, I take it a lot of old classics are making the chart again.

I do agree about Limewire.

Sales are not low because of this (illegal downloading), there has always been a level of piracy of music. In the past recording from radio. It's the same thing, only the media has changed.

In many ways I feel music is more likely to be purchased now then ever before. The difference is that there is a tendency to buy the albums in a physical format, because once you make the effort you go for the Album. Things are changing again and we can look forward to growth in download single sales.

its an unsigned band consisting of 4 of my good mates. u'll probably think i'm biased but i think they are great especially compared to many acts around at the moment.

they LOVE one hit wonders. it annoys me so much.

when i looked at the biggest hits this year i was really ashamed :(
