January 8Jan 8 Author Great Britain's Harriet Dart and Billy Harris have reached the final round of qualifying for the Australian Open, but Heather Watson and Fran Jones were beaten at Melbourne Park. Third seed Dart, who has recently slipped out of the world's top 100, fought back to beat Australian teenager Taylah Preston 6-7 (7-9) 6-1 6-2. Harris, meanwhile, needed just 70 minutes to race past Spain's Carlos Taberner 6-1 6-2. Dart and Harris are the last Britons standing in qualifying after Jones suffered a grueling 4-6 7-6 (15-13) 6-3 defeat by Switzerland's Jil Teichmann and Watson lost 3-6 6-3 6-1 to American Varvara Lepchenko. Dart will face Japan's Nao Hibino on Thursday, while Harris, who made his Grand Slam main-draw debut at Wimbledon last year, will play Poland's Kamil Majchrzak. Players must win three qualifying matches to reach the main draw of the tournament, which begins on Sunday. Katie Boulter, Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal, Jodie Burrage, Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley all have direct entry into the main singles draw.

January 13Jan 13 AU Open started yay 1st surprise (or not) Tsitsipas is out in R1 Djokovic started pretty bad, Draper also. Edited January 13Jan 13 by Bjork
January 14Jan 14 Berretini beats Norrie Rune and Medvedev needed 5 sets but went thru Rune feels to me like the sort of player that will get to the 4th round a lot. Seems like a nice guy though so hope him/Shelton and Draper go far in tournaments this year
January 14Jan 14 1st surprise (or not) Tsitsipas is out in R1 I don't foresee a good season for him if this is how he's starting the year :basil: Six Brits making it to the second round (with Boulter and Raducanu both winning today) is a new record for the Australian Open! Got a couple of days off work so will finally be able to watch some tomorrow, nice to see that Draper round 2 has been scheduled for a night session
January 15Jan 15 Brit watch Burrage/Dart put up a fight against seeds but lost Fearnley through in 4 sets Draper came from 2-1 sets and a break down to win in 5 sets
January 16Jan 16 We always seem to get one late match and today's was it, finishing just before 3 in the morning, with Learner Tien beating Daniil Medvedev in just under five hours. Good to see another young player breaking through.
January 16Jan 16 oh my Medvedev out, wasn't expecting that, and in the tiebreak of the 5th very much looking forward to Swiatek-Raducanu in R3
January 16Jan 16 Both runners-up from last year being out in the second round :o The final set of Medvedev vs. Tien was a thriller. Rublev also out in R1 I expected this to happen as he's such a non-shock for an early exit, and his opponent won the NextGen Finals last month, but I didn't think Fonseca would then go out the following round
January 18Jan 18 Oh my poor Emma, Sviatek destroyed her Fritz also out, everybody on Sinners draw is out already
