For BJSC 179 we are in Jadakissnia so as we'd already sent dark wave last month the other appropriate option is for some good ole shoegaze. It comes from Boston-based producer/guitarist/singer-songwriter Evan Lo who now performs as Flawed Mangoes, having formerly been sent to the contest with "Die" under the name Fla.mingo. It is our first entry to feature male vocals since Tinlicker & Brian Molko's 'Nowhere To Go' in BJSC 166!!

Ahh I completely missed when researching that this is the same person as Fla.mingo (the weird artist name makes slightly more sense now). I did love 'Die', looks like this song will be quite different sounding but still looks promising!

For BJSC 180 we aim to put our strongest foot forward to round out the year and push for that much-desired end-of-year #1 placement which we have been closely battling out with Neliönoir for the last few months. Re-introducing Austra, the solo project of Canadian singer-songwriter Katie Stelmanis. She had been sent to the contest four times previously however we feel 'Fallen Cloud' is different enough and a good while since her previous efforts to warrant a fifth outing. The song has a dreamy dance-pop production and beautiful vocal performance which we hope translates well to the BJSC audience.

Austra says of the song “Although I didn’t realize until long after this song was finished, ‘Fallen Cloud’ is a song that takes place during the bargaining stage of grief. It begins with a desperate attempt to change an undesired romantic outcome, but after spending a bit too much time imagining different scenarios, I become enveloped by the dream-like fantasy of an alternate life. This song is meant to make you feel like you’re floating in a sweet cloud of delusion.”
