April 29, 20251 yr If Damocles is your favourite new release this week, be sure to vote for Sleep Token in this week's Indie Track of the Week!
May 16, 20251 yr most brutal review i've seen in pitchfork for a while, probably since Ed Sheeran:PitchforkSleep Token: Even in ArcadiaRead Eli Enis’ review of the album.
May 16, 20251 yr That reviewer appears to have discovered the term djent in the last five minutes and absolutely loves it. They've even fallen for the 'djent is a genre nonsense' that the media seems to love.To be fair though, every thing else they've said, except the anonymous bit (does anyone still not know who they are?) I kind of agree with.
May 16, 20251 yr I'd never listened to anything by them because one look at them would indicate it'd be something I'd turn off after a minute, but as that review indicates, that isn't really the case. Caramel is great, I absolutely LOVE Damocles but wow listening to a whole album of this was one hell of a drag. Utterly, utterly boring. Absolutely don't see the fuss and the popularity if this is what Sleep Token is.
May 16, 20251 yr They've definitely got better stuff on their earlier albums. Chokehold, The Summoning and Alkaline are decent but I've always been baffled that certain people seem to really turned on by them. And I mean that in every sense. Edited May 16, 20251 yr by Severin Typo
May 16, 20251 yr I think this is their most "accessible" album to date (and album of the year contender), which is great for me at least, a little pop leaning and gets loud at times, even if a tad formulaic for some because most of the songs start soft before introducing heavier sections.Regardless of what I think, congrats in order for them!
