  • I think the point here is that the same 4 posters come in every time Ed Sheeran has a new release and say the same opinions and it’s tedious for those that aren’t biased in their opinions about him an

I was so peeved at the time that wasn't a single in the UK, I absolutely loved it! I wish they'd released it instead of 'Save The Lies'

Mind you, Ed Sheeran has mentioned her in a song before so maybe it might actually be inspired by that.

It only git to #16 here in Australia, which was considered a disappointment considering Sweet About Me was a #1 hit here.

I don't think anything else she released did any better than that in fairness.

True and looking back with hindsight I don’t think anything else would’ve as well.

If he wanted to release a slow wedding type song I feel ‘The Vow’ would have been the better choice. That would sell the album better if he done a few live performances of it.

Yeh The Vow is like a recreation of Thinking Out Loud but just not quite as good albeit it sounds timeless.

My fav is now In Other Words.

Not too fussed about any of the new songs except 'Crashing' which is one of the best things on the entire Play project - love that old skool guitar solo!!

I’m not sure why that was just a B-side to ‘Azizam’ and not on the original album. Would have definitely been a better single than ‘Camera’.

I’m quite surprised there’s not an obvious big single within the new tracks to give the album a boost.

Oh yes I knew I had heard Crashing from somewhere else, I remember thinking that if the b-sides were that strong then the album would be amazing, but it was just a case of a great b-side.

Anyone know if this deluxe has been released on CD? I can only find mention of a limited vinyl (which I'm not spending out for).

The albums pretty good but I do feel like there isnt anything in the new tracks that makes me feel like i was missing out by them not being on the original except maybe crahing

(Would of been nice if he sneaked Drive onto the deluxe though)

Yeah it's good but in many cases to me Play is weaker versions of material he's done before. Where the album excelled for me was Azizam, Sapphire and Symmetry, where he used musical influences he hadn't before but applied his usual ear for a great pop melody to them.

I just checked all the new tracks and agree that Crashing is the main one that feels like it should have been on the new album (great songwriters and production for a b-side - I did buy the single earlier in the year so knew it already), but I also enjoyed and added Lights Out to my playlist, and a few of the other new songs are probably good for another listen. It doesn't feel like any huge hits were left off the original album anyway.

I actually think Subtract got a very hard time, that was one of my top five albums of 2023. Weird that he got only one proper hit off it, Curtains was great!

Agree on subtract I just dont get why he moved on from it so fast and didnt really promote anything else other than a few live performances

He's been quite open on it being more of a passion project for him rather than going for the big commercial success like he is with this one.

It was both of them, really.

I was half expecting that he would have a re release of play in time for Christmas but its not looking likely now.

It was rereleased today (well yesterday) 27 tracks on streaming and digital, even a vinyl on his website
