April 2Apr 2 Author Kendrick Lamar & SZA’s ‘Luther’ No. 1 on Hot 100 for Sixth WeekBy Gary Trust | 3/31/2025Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” rules the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart for a sixth total and consecutive week. The single, whose title fêtes late R&B icon Luther Vandross, who is sampled on the track, became Lamar’s sixth No. 1 and SZA’s third. Lamar and SZA each extend their longest career Hot 100 reigns with the song.Meanwhile, “Luther” ties Jack Harlow’s “Lovin on Me,” in 2023-24, for the longest Hot 100 command for a rap hit since 24kGoldn’s “Mood,” featuring iann dior, led for eight weeks in 2020-21. The only longer domination for a rap hit this decade: 11 weeks, for Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” in 2020. (Rap titles are defined as those that have hit or are eligible for Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart.)Plus, Morgan Wallen’s “Just in Case” launches at No. 4 on the Hot 100, marking the country star’s 14th top 10 – and record fifth from an album prior to its release; his I’m the Problem is due May 16 – and Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” trots to No. 5, becoming her third top five hit.“Luther,” on pgLang/Interscope/ICLG, totaled 58.3 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 4% week-over-week), 26.3 million official streams (down 6%) and 3,000 sold (down 13%) in the U.S. March 21-27.The track rebounds 3-1 for a fifth week atop the Streaming Songs chart; holds at its No. 2 high on Radio Songs; and falls 10-15, after reaching No. 4, on Digital Song Sales.“Luther” concurrently adds a 14th week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts, which use the same methodology as the Hot 100.Morgan Wallen’s “Just in Case” bounds in at No. 4 on the Hot 100. Released March 21, the ballad totaled 21.3 million streams, 2.8 million in airplay audience (it’s his next single to be promoted to country radio) and 7,000 sold in its first week. The song, Wallen’s 14th Hot 100 top 10, further ushers in his fourth studio album, I’m the Problem, due May 16; his tour of the same name is set to kick off June 20. It’s his fifth song from the set (all are confirmed as on its tracklist) to hit the top 10 – breaking the record for the most Hot 100 top 10s from an album prior to its release. Here’s a recap of the collection’s top 10s to date:“Just in Case,” No. 4 debut & peak, April 5, 2025“I’m the Problem,” No. 2 debut & peak, Feb. 15“Smile,” No. 4 peak, Jan. 18“Love Somebody,” No. 1 debut & peak, one week, Nov. 2, 2024“Lies Lies Lies,” No. 7 debut & peak, July 20Previously, Post Malone’s Hollywood’s Bleeding (2019) and Taylor Swift’s Red (2012) each generated four top 10s before debuting, each at No. 1, on the Billboard 200 albums chart.(Also on the latest Hot 100, a sixth pre-album release song from Wallen’s I’m the Problem, “I’m a Little Crazy,” debuts at No. 17.)Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” rides 9-5 on the Hot 100, with 38.1 million in airplay audience (up 5%), 15.1 million streams and 6,000 sold. The track becomes the singer-songwriter’s third top five Hot 100 hit, a week after “The Giver” debuted at No. 5 (and at No. 1 on the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart). “Good Luck, Babe!” reached No. 4 on the Hot 100 last September. “Pink Pony Club” is the first top five entry from her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess; her other two such hits are currently stand-alone singles.Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” rebounds 3-2, following five nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in January. It adds a seventh week atop Radio Songs (61.1 million, down 4%).Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” rises 6-3 on the Hot 100, following its record-tying 19 weeks at No. 1 beginning last July. It rebounds 2-1 for a 39th week atop Hot Country Songs.Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led the Hot 100 for a week in March 2024 – and became the year’s No. 1 song – ascends 12-6. It notches an 84th week on the survey overall, the fourth-longest stay in the chart’s history, below only Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” (91 weeks, in 2021-22); The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (90 weeks, 2019-22); and Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” (87 weeks, 2012-14).Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Drake’s “Nokia” rises 11-7, dialing up a new high; Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” jumps 15-8, after it reached No. 2; Lamar’s “Not Like Us” dips 8-9, following three weeks at No. 1 between last May and February; and ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” steps 14-10, after hitting No. 3. (A week earlier, three songs debuted in the top five; they all drop out of the 10, helping spur the climbs for multiple titles in the top 10 on the latest chart.)
April 2Apr 2 Poor Jack and Doja they were probably hoping/expecting higher than that and so was I, as the production is quite lively oh well.
April 3Apr 3 US HOT 100 1.03.25 #26 THE TOP TEN: At 10, 'Apt' returns the top ten as 'Not Like Us' slips to 9. Also returning are 'Beautiful Things' at 8, 'Nokia' at 7 and 'Lose Control' at 6. Chappell achieves a new peak of 5 with 'Pink Pony Club', which is just below the highest new entry, 'Just In Case' by Morgan Wallen at 4. Shaboozey returns top 3 with 'A Bar Song (Tipsy)' at 3, as Gaga and Mars are back to two with 'Die With A Smile'. And spending its 6th consecutive week at the top spot is 'Luther' by Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA. NEW ENTRIES: 97. Sunset Blvd – Selena Gomez/Benny Blanco (1.8/10) Yeah… this album is lined up to be exactly the way 'The Secret Of Us' went. Selena sings in a whisper-like tone where she appears to eat Benny Blanco in the music video. The buildup to the chorus is unstable and comes out of nowhere while not even matching the buildup; it's horrible. This could be the worst album of 2025 already. 92. Friends Like That – John Morgan/Jason Aldean (6/10) Since Jason's controversial number one in 2023, he's still managed to keep some level of respect as he keeps charting, but what he doesn't do is make something new. This is straight to the point: the most American country music you'll find with nothing else that adds any flavour or reason to love the song – it's the same old guitar song about a breakup with the classic voice you would expect for a country song, and the worst part is that this is a remix followed on from John Morgan's 2022 solo version of 'Friends Like That'. Why did he think it would be a good idea to remix this? I don't know. 80. Somethin' Bout a Woman – Thomas Rhett/Teddy Swims (8/10) I heard of the song when it came out four months ago, but I was hesitant to listen due to him just being a feature, but I really should've listened to it. I really liked Thomas and Teddy's collab on 'Broke' a few years back, and that made it into my top 100 most streamed songs of 2024, but I just wasn't excited to see Teddy lean into country. As much as the other country songs he did weren't as good, this is one I'll say is actually pretty good! The song uses a slower-paced sound and soulful vocals that bring out the most in this track; it makes you bob your head back and forth because it's really groovy! And the production sounds after Teddy says "somethin' bout a woman" are my favourite part! That hits! 71. How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten – Selena Gomez/Benny Blanco (3.7/10) Oh great… another song from their album I have to listen to. May as well listen to the whole thing later then. This follows the same pattern as a lot of the things the duo has done; it's a slow-moving romantic song that actually doesn't sound designed for TikTok but still blandly ticks the boxes. There's no real attitude or feeling to this; it's motionless and lacks depth. 70. This Town's Been Too Good To Us - Dylan Scott (4/10) The best thing here is Dylan's deeper and more intertwined with the song vocals, but apart from that, we've gone back to really boring country, where if you've heard country music many times before, then this is numb to you – there's just nothing to care about here and instead just a forgettable guitar and clap loop. 65. Mona Lisa – J-Hope (6.5/10) I wish I could just enjoy BTS and their solo members music without having to be reminded how insane a lot of their fans are; if BTS started a cult, then it would probably be the biggest religion within a day. But I'm not here to go into a rant about that, as much as we could; we've got a song to talk about.' Mona Lisa's' strong points are its beat; it has a funky switch which separates it from BTS's other songs and makes J-Hope a standout. He does keep his lyricism the same about how he likes his girls, and he also gives a similar vibe in his music video (by doing a group dance.) The song is a radio groovy song that's already losing the spotlight, but I still think it's fair; it's not a replay, but I wouldn't complain at all about hearing it again. 59. Ojos Tristes – Selena Gomez/Benny Blanco/The Marias (8/10) I've heard over half the album, and this is one of two tracks that are replayed (this being my current favourite.) The slow melody sounds perfect to just sit and stare into a sunset to; it's great for a main single and showcases The Marias style really well! It'll also help climb their first hit, No One Noticed', up the charts. The lyrics are about letting go of a boy, which follows the theme of romance and relationships on Selena and Benny's new album. 57. Just Us – Jack Harlow/Doja Cat (2.5/10) Bro, Jack Harlow dropped one of the best albums I've ever heard in my life, and now he's back to doing the same songs that you might have heard from the 'Come Home the Kids Will Miss You' era. First of all, the lyrics in this song are worse than basic, and here are a few examples: "Cause I'm tryna bust nuts in this b*tch." "Slow it down like macaroni." "Yeah, I'm that stupid, like, duh." And then more lyrics which just have "Huh" as the cutoff point and just get cut off mid-vocals – especially for a chorus; this is really off-putting. Doja's vocals also usually follow a sharp, quick flow, but this doesn't have anything closely resembling that; it's like watered-down Doja. The production is really weak and feels like how most couple songs go; they tone it down on the production, and on this, it doesn't even feel like it was engineered to its best potential. The backing sounds like it's someone talking with a drum loop, and it doesn't work well with the vocals. Overall, it's weak and a disappointment. 17. I'm A Little Crazy – Morgan Wallen (6.9/10) Update: This grew on me, but here's my previous write-up anyway: Not again. Morgan... goodness. Every single from this upcoming album gets worse and worse than the last, and it's happened again; Morgan needs to stop this. This is the same country music that has no hook or real reason to have the song propel, and instead is just really simple, low-effort music that sounds ok to the ears, but that's about it. It'll probably still go high in the US charts, though, because it's Morgan Wallen. 4. Just In Case – Morgan Wallen (7/10) This also grew on me, and I can understand why this was more popular than "I'm A Little Crazy". It has a more relaxed yet catchy melody that goes much smoother.
